A while back I had seen something on the Barnes and Noble website called the Barnes and Noble First Look Book Club.
Basically they were debuting a new Book Club. It was called First Look. What would happen is that you would sign up and they would send you a free advanced copy of the current Book Club book.
The Debut book is a book called "The Monsters Of Templeton" by new author Lauren Groff. This book is not yet out in publication and will not be released until 2008. I signed up and received the book a few days ago in the mail. I had forgotten all about it.
While you read the book, like other B&N book clubs you can participate in the discussions. The author also joins in the discussion at a certain point in time. For instance this book club will start October 1st and the author will join in after October 22. It's kind of cool because you'll get to talk to the author and let them know what you think of the book before anyone else can!
It's too late for you to join in on this book club, but if you're interested you can go to the site and sign up for updates in future first look book club discussions (you have to sign up each time they have a new book since there are limited quantities and you have to sign up fast or you won't get a book!)
The discussion board is also private to those who are not signed up for that particular book club.
So if you like Book Clubs online, Free books and Barnes and Noble... It's something worth checking out!

The bulk of this book club will take place in October. So I would think that the next book club may be in December or January.
The book itself, The Monsters of Templeton, won't be out until 2008. I started reading it already, it's pretty interesting.
I think the club is a really cool idea. Because you really get to help the authors too by telling them how their book is before it's released to the public you know. it's cool.
I'd definitely keep an eye out for it and try to register for the next one!

That would actually be a pretty good thing for me to try sometime. Since I'm trying to become a professional author, it would be good for me to hear from other authors. I ocassionally do the forums with my school because they always feature an author and I usually learn a lot. Ha ha. One day you might receive an advanced copy of the Chill Dectective Series in First Look! ha ha. But you know you're my inspiration anyway.:P Besides, you're going to be my manager.

Ha ha most definitely. I thought it was pretty cool. I actually started reading the book last night. It's got a lot of big words. and by big words I mean...words that could easily have been simple, but instead to make it cooler they used a big word. you know? But it's pretty decent. I'll probably get super behind on the forum but the author won't be there until end of October. So yeah... that's what I'm more interested in. That's pretty cool though. You should check out the next one!
Yes, it'll be awesome! I'll manage you, figure out crimes and be an inspiration :)

Thanks for the pointer. I just signed up. I've also been a member of www.shelfari.com for a while, which has been an interesting forum for book discussions.

No Problem. I don't know when I'm going to find the time to read the book and participate because I started going back to school and have school books to read, but it looks like a really cool book. I'm interested in reading it for sure.
I'll have to check that site out though..it looks pretty cool!
