A couple of years ago, I bought 4 beautiful black and grey striped fresh water fish called Cinvicts, from Petsmart. I payed about under a dollar for each of them. I had a 55 gallon tank and thought they would make a great additon to my bumblebees and gouramis. Little did I know the next year would entail about 30 broods of babies! I had 2 females and 2 males, but didn't know it. Both females would lay a brood every 3 weeks or so. The kids oved it cause they could watcht he development from the time they were layed, to hatcking and them growing. At first, it was kind of neat. Each brood was MAYBE 10-20 eggs. We would scoop the babies out when they got bigger and I would take them to pet stores in the area. I put adds on freecycle all the time for people to come take as many as they wanted. About 3 months later, the bigger female payed a brood of so many eggs that she covered the entire rock! When they hatched, the water was cloudy!! Then, the other female layed a brood about the same size! It was TERRIBLE!! What was fun at first had turned into this massive chore of constant scooping and giving away. A few months after that no one in the area wanted my fish any more....I see adds on freecycle all the time with people that I gave fish to, trying to get rid of their babies! LOL! I guess I find it kind of funny, and I will never make the mistake of buying a group of fish without researching them first! They were worse than guppies!!

I have been n the aquarium hobby for over 55 years and have been involved in many aquarium clubs. I enjoy the cichlids very much but with convict cichlids I tell people that if the want to breed then all they need is a male and a female and a wet napkin to have them breed for you. I hope that you get things worked out and get a aquarium or aquariums again. I am one person that has mts (multiple tank syndrome). I am building a fish room to house over 100 aquariums.

LOL! Where were you when I bought those fish?? I loved them, I really did, I just thought they would be another fish, you know? Not breeding machines!! I would love to have tanks agian, but just can't afford it right now. I want to buy a house with a wall I can knock out and make a GIANT fish tank built into the wall someday!

When you are ready to built the aquarium in the wall give me a call and if I can I will help you as much s I can. Or you can join a local aquarium club and there should be some members that are willing to help you with that project.

No, I ended up getting rid of my tank. We were having some financial difficulties, and our choice was to get rid of our fish and tank, or our dogs, so we chose to sell the tank.
