I hope this is not a stupid question. But around here there are garage and yard sales almost every weekend, where people are selling off their old stuff. I've also heard them called rummage sales. Do people in other countries do this also? Do you also call them yard sales, or somthing similar? I'd really like to know.

Really! Here we mostly sell our own old stuff, although I do know of one place that has a huge garage sale every other weekend. I know they buy stuff somewhere else (probably other garage sales) and then sell it again. So, ukay ukay is what you call your sales, thats interesting.

Around here they are called yard sales mostly although I do see an occasional sign for garage sales or rummage sales. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Yard sales - is your weather pretty good year round? And do they have stuff out in the yard, or in a garage?

Texas! I was really asking about other countries, trying to find out if this is an American phenomenon or worldwide.

I usually use the phrase "garage sale" as a catch-all. They're all basically the same thing. Just some are in a garage, or in someone's yard, or in a church or school... or outside somewhere. But they all have the same purpose & I love to go to all of them!!!

where i live we have all three. although a rummage sale is usually in a church or at a firehall, those ones i like usually you get a bag for a .50 or a 1.00 and i have learned the way you pack your bag is the key...there are a lot of signs for garage sales but they usually set up in there yard depending on the weather... i still ove to go to them like they say one mans junk is anothers treasure..

Hi DJ9020, In the UK (where I am originally from) they have sales out of the trunks of their cars which they call boot sales. (A trunk on a car is called a boot in Europe). Hope this answers your question. btw. I live in Wisconsin now.

Ha! How could you get an old washer in the boot of the car????? Just kidding! I'm sure you've seen them around your neighborhood now - everything up to and including the kitchen sink are available.
