Advertising yourself?

The other day I sat in a party where the talking was very livid and fun. We were some 10 ppl and everything got discussed and talked about. But at some point, I got an odd feeling. I knew that some of the ppl wanted to expand their feelings towards each other, and during the night I kinda got the feeling that they were kind of "advertising" themselves to each other with some of what they talked about or said. One of them highlighted something about themselves I felt was both out of character but also ment to peek an interest, and that was the first gib in me that something else was going on :D I never really paid much attention to this before, and I was actually having a silent laugh everytime I paid attention to it. I find it pretty fun that ppl advertise themselves to make the other person aware of them or more interested in them. And pretty sneaky as well lol. Have anyone of you paid attention to this before? I know I will probably unwillingly pay more attention to it for a while at least as I find it very fun :D

I have a friend like this, she embellishes EVERYTHING. If she doesn't feel like everyone around is listening to her, she will increase her volume until she knows that everyone is. I find this quite annoying actually, she is happily married but seems to NEED the drama to center around her. I guess I just don't understand it, she is pretty, and nice, but seems to have horribly low self esteem.

Not quite what I was getting at. That is just attention seeking, and not something I approve of at all :D If you read above its more about the way ppl try to let ppl know they are interested in the other party.
