Well, I have several dreams in my life and one of them is to be able to work outside our country Philippines. But its not because I am not satisfied with my compensation here, but it because I want to explore different challenges and perhaps learn more about different cultures. At heart, I am really a traveler and an adventurer but just didn't have enough resources to do so. And i think that working abroad will give me these opportunities. Anyway, at present I am working as Computer Science Teacher. I also practice programming/ web development -- but since I don't have much time I don't consider myself an expert in the programming/ web development field. I know that the demand for IT workers abroad is not that big and I know that to get there you have to be excellent in programming, etc. So, I also consider other jobs like administrative jobs, teaching, etc. Anyway, I am a fast learner so I think it won't be so much difficult for me to adjust to new jobs -- even if its out of my line of profession. So, well, I really need the advise of those who have already experienced working abroad -- specially Filipinos abroad. What do you think should I do? Where will I start? Where will I find these opportunities? Or perhaps, you can recommend agencies or companies who hire directly and all that stuff. But anyway, I'm not that desperate yet...but your ideas are greatly appreciated!Thank you so much.

Have you considered applying to be an english teacher abroad? I have a cousin who is pursuing doing just that. Your tenure may be for a few months or a year. You will also get a stipend for housing. It may be a great chance to experience something new, while still having a safety net. What i mean by a safety net - is that you didn't just move there on a whim or with a company who may or may not keep you. You can re-up your contract later, but sometimes a year is all you may need to feel you have tasted another experience. Also, its a good resume credit. Do not discount, though, that there are some awesome experiences for enrichment in the US. My church has mission trips where you go help a family rebuild their home in the hurricane belt, for example. Or you can take your teaching skills and apply to teach children on an Indian Reservation, or in an area where they may not speak html or unix as a second language and by being introduced kids can really take off and achieve a whole different career than their parents did :) There are many opportunities to feel enriched without globe trotting.

Sure. Let me talk to my cousin. He is interviewing with 2 different ones. It might take me a couple days to get him (telephone tag) but I will tell you what they are. send me a message in a couple days if you don't hear.

If you have relatives or very close friends abroad... i think they are the ones who can help you best find a job abroad... this happened to me because my father works in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba... when there was a job opening he gave my resume to the HR department and i got hired immediately... You can ask your friends or relatives to give your resume to companies that are in need of workers in the field of computers... that way you do not need to go to recruiters who charge huge amount of money...

yes! i guess, you are right! I do have relatives abroad...but they are not immediate relatives. My father has cousins in Hawaii, and my mother has a sister in Sweden. I do think they can help. I just don't know how to contact them yet. And I'm quite shy in asking.
