Filing Your Nails.....Does it Make Your Fingers Hurt?

I noticed the wierdest thing the other day and I was just wondering if this happens to anyone else. I have long nails and rather than cutting them I will file them down when they get too long, it works better and you get a better shape that way. However, I have noticed that, like, the day after I file all of my nails, they will be sore. Now I know an actual finger nail cannot get sore, but its like where they connect to my finger, gets a little sore, so that if I were to press firmly on my nail, like you would to glue on a fake nail, it hurts a little. I think that this in fro the back and forth motion of filing giggleing the nail around a bit and putting pressure on where it connects to my finger. But I don't know. I just know they get sore. Does this happen to anyone else here at Mylot?

I se nail cutter in trimmig my nails. I don't use file even for just shaping it. I cut my nails really short. I hate long nails because I can see dirt inside it after a day. And it makes me irritated and feel yucky. I have a sister who uses file but for shaping only. But she always got blood flowing when she removes her ingrown. lol It badly hurts according to her. And yet, she still does it. Because it hurts more when her ingrow stays.

Well you just have to clean under your nails daily and then there won't be dirt under tham if you want to have them long. I don't get ingrown nails and I am glad, it sounds painful. I used to keep my nails short when I worked in food service but now I like to have them long, I think it looks better.

Yes it does make my nails hurt. I found a trick to stop that which is on the same hand that your filing, use one of your fingers on the same hand and hold down the nail that's being filed so it won't be lifted too much and it won't be painful when you're finished. For example if you're filing your index finger on your left hand, take your middle finger on the same hand and press down on the nail while filing. You won't have as much or any pain at all when you're finished. It's a pretty cool trick that I taught myself a while back and it does work like a charm!

Thanks for the tip. I will have to try that the next time I file my nails. I was beginning to think that I was the only one that this happens to.

Hey thanks for the best response! I take it that my suggestion worked? I know it does for me anyway and had to pass that on to you. Bless you!
