I love Edward Hopper. He has such a way with light. His paintings of people are always so dark and lonely, as if modern communication has broken down. His couples sit together but are clearly not together. It is as if they are in their own little world all alone. His paintings for me match Hemingway's writing style.

My favorite painter is 19th century's Joseph Mallord William TURNER. His most respected works are paintings of seastorms.
On the technical side of art, he was one of those who started to break the rules of Academic painting, eliminating that infinite horizon, replacing it with clouds, ignoring that rule of the three dimensional illusion above all. The way he paints, making the colors not so real, and not trying to make his painting a "photography" also pleases me.
On the emmotional side...I just love the sea and ships...specially the stormy sea...it's impressive, exciting, frightening...amazing.
