Do genes determine us or we destine ourselves?

We are all made of genes and each individual has unique set. The intelligence, behavior, emotions, and many other factors are determined by them. Does free will has any role? Are we all destined robots? This is an old debate of nurture versus nature?

Genes controls a lot. A LOT. But i dun think they play a big role is success, unless you are a sports athelic. But dun forget, Genetic engineering today can modify genes.

Genetic engineering is making rapid progress. But it has a long way to go to modify human genes. Fruit fly and plants are different, humans will have to wait. Of course a disease called SCID, has been manipulated by inserting ADA gene.

Our genetic make up in fact determines us to a great extent, but the activation of genes can be controlled our regulated by self or nature, environment. The methylation process is an important event which determines which genes actively make a difference to us.The activation is to some extent determined by our behaviour. we are not entirely at the mercy of our genes. Read book by Matt Ridley, called Genome.
