Smokers!!!

How do you feel about how other people feel about your smoking? Are you a considerate smoker? By that I mean do you follow the rules about not smoking in banned areas? Not smoking around other people that are non-smokers, or around children. I know smoking is bad for your health. But I feel that is my choice. If I feel like smoking, I think I have the right to. Have you noticed how much tax there is on a single pack of cigarettes? And what are some of the plans that you have heard for these taxes that are being charged to the smoker? What would happen to these taxes if everyone quit smoking? It certainly woouldn't pay for child health programs. What I see here is a catch 22. People want smokers to quit, but in the meantime, let's charge more taxes and make plans to use them elsewhere. What's up with that? Am I a rebel? Not really!! I just don't like being told that if I smoke, I have to pay high taxes. If you really don't want me to smoke, then go after the companies that produce the tobacco in the first place. I want to thank you for giving me a chance to vent. I am not intending to offend anyone, but as a smoker, I am just stating my thoughts on the subject. Happy posting..

I think we let the non-smokers take us over at some point or other. At least they think they have won, or they are waiting for us smokers to fight back.

hi cajun, Lake Charles is not the only place where you can't smoke in public places, unfortunately. In some places you can't even smoke in the parks, no matter how big the park is. I thank you for your understanding and support on this topic. Happy posting..

Hey Crazy, Im a smoker, a still trying to quit smoker, but Im very considerate. I dont smoke where signs ask you not too, and if Im in a car with someones kid, I refrain. I even ask my life long friend if she minds if I smoke in her car. She quit 11 yrs ago when her son was born, but will smoke on occasion. A pack lasts her a week! I definately dont smoke in her house, although she dont mind when her son is not home. I was recently at the Harness Races and they actually announce every now and again that there is no smoking in the grand stand and low and behold there was a older woman sitting there smoking the whole time. Everyone else was getting up and going off to the side where they have ash trays. But she ignored it, and had half a pack of butts stomped out with her foot on the ground. I dont do that either, I find a place to put it out. I can relate to non-smokers, its their sh!tty attitude is what I have a problem with. They get an attitude and say I dont like it, and you say I do, well how come they are the only ones to be right? lol Non-smokers want to live their lives and smokers want to live theirs with NO one being sh!tty about it. LOL Im on a rant with you now, Crazy! But seriously, I do think smokers should be more considerate, but so should non smokers. Their sh!tty attitude only hurts our pride not our health. Bay xx

Very good points bayleighGray! I have seen the same type of attitudes around here also from people that don't smoke. I am very considerate of non-smokers and smoking signs, but I still get dirty looks from other people. It annoys me as I know that over half of what I pay for my habit goes for programs that they are making very good use.

I'm supposed to be a non smoker but I have the occasional one so I'll call myself a reformed smoker. I live out in the bush so I pay extra again for my ciggies. I so agree with what you're saying here. Do we actually know where the smoker's tax goes to? Why don't they just remove them from sale then we wouldn't have the problems we face with illness and all the other hoo-haa that non smokers go on with. (Mind you, they are right to complain) but I'm also right to make my own choices yada yada yada. LOL.

I'm a smoker as well. I try to be a considerate smoker. My husband, alot of my friends, and of course my children don't smoke. So I never allow myself or anyone else to smoke in my house. I always go outside. I also don't smoke in the car when a non-smoker is in there too. I've been trying to quit, but I'm a stress smoker and when I get stressed out I feel like I have to have one or I will go crazy.

hi tripleS, Stress smoking is a very hard habit to break. I admire you for trying to quit smoking and I'm sure you have very good reasons for wanting to quit. That is your choice, and your right to do if you wish. Personally, I wish you the best of luck in kicking the habit. I just wish I felt ready, but I am not, and I resent a non-smoker telling me that it is for my own good. Happy posting..

First I never smoke. Second, most smokers I met are very polite and considerate. I feel sorry for them, because smoking is not good for their health and they have to pay high tax. Government needs money, companies need smokers, that's why and how smokers are sacrificed.
