Microsoft threatened by Flash Video Players?

Flash video players are pervasive now on the internet. I guess these players started getting popular with You Tube. But now, many web sites are using them. Back to the late nineties, Real One inc held a quasi monopole over video players. Some people accused Real One of stealing personal information from clients' computers. Then, came Microsoft who succeeded thanks to its agressive marketing schemes to impose media player. I am a Linux user, and I was annoyed at these times because I had always to switch to Windows whenever I wanted to play a video. There are a few Linux players like VLC and they generally perform poorly especially when it comes to streaming videos. Now, with FLV format (the video format used by flash video players), I am able to view videos from TV stations and other web sites without logging out from my Linux box. Long life to open technologies!
