I remember when I was little (long, long time ago in a galaxy far away), if my parents bought a refrigerator or stove, the box was the best part of the whole thing for me!....I would play in that box for hours on end. I don't think your little one's are doing this just to make a mess, they just like the toy box better, lol! Imaginations are wonderful things, and they probably are traveling all over the universe in their little boxes..... Here's what I did for my nephew when he was three....I bought him an indoor kid's tent...my niece put it up over in a corner of the room so she could still keep an eye on him and he would play forever in there....with the dog,..with his toys,...talk to himself...eat his lunch in there...it was his own private little space and he just loved it! Yes, they do grow out of it eventually, lol!

Just be glad they are only playing in the boxes, we moved when my son was just over 3, we bought a gas grill and then threw it in my son room figuring until we got him a nice toybox it would work. He dumped it. And slept in it for months instead of his bed. To bribe him out of the box, we had to get him a new one, he was due anyhow, but he refused to consider a bed. He just loved that box.

When my son was only 2 years old he used to keep his toys back on its proper place after playing, we taught him to do that, but now that he is getting older (5years old) he sometimes leave all the toys that he used in the living room, he dont mind if our house looks messy because of him all he know is he finished playing and look for the other stuff to do. But sometimes he can still put back his toys in its proper place. Or sometimes arrange his toys in the living room and no can touch it except him, if one of his toys moved to the other place or a adjust a little he will mad and cry until you put it back from where he place it before. Maybe children loves playing only not attending in the mess around them. But that's what really a child mean. So older ones need to have more patience to them. Sooner they will learn proper things too.

They love to see you squirm! Out of the ordinary is fun. Let their imaginations fly...If you could get grama to stop giving you so many toys then you wouldn't have a dumping problem...LOL

Try and interact with the kids. Help them transform playing with the toys or toy boxes and turn the clean up into a game. That can help. If they are really just playing with the boxes, why not get spare boxes for them to play with and seal up the toys until the kids are ready to play with those.

My son does this too. I'm about ready to box up some of his toys and hide them for awhile. I'm sick and tired of picking them all up! Even worse, we have 2 cats who are old and b!tchy about things on the floor. They don't mind "hard" things like legos, cars, etc. They don't like anything "soft" like stuffed animals, clothes, etc. To protest, they pee on the offending items. So I have to clean his carpet and wash his stuffed animals once a week. It's SO frustrating! I'm about ready to box up the stuffed animals, too.
