Publishing my book!!!

As many of you already know, I love writing. During this summer I turned some ideas and notes I had jotted down during the previous month into the first draft of a little novel..Now I am back to work but I promised myself that as soon as I finished my paper for my PhD final discussion, I would start working again on the project. But how to have it published?? Here it is the striking (for me!!!) news: today I found a site where they said they would help you publish your book if they liked it..and it seems that they are not asking money in advance. I have just written to have some more information. I am so excited that I wish I could start working right now on my book, but I am going back to my research paper. But keep your fingers crossed for me!!! Writing is such a passion!

my uncle Alfie Klondyke got me on to this mylot and he told me that he thinks you will be a great writer as you have a beautiful understanding of people around you and you are always upbeat and positive. My uncle Alfie is a bit crazy but when he compliments someone i listen! if he says you will be a success, that's good enough for me!

Publishing is a scary world the first time out. I used to be a literary agent for a boutique agency that has since closed up shop. We read hundreds of book proposals and queries every week and over two years I was there I asked to see two manuscripts. The business is tough to break into but from talking with my friends who are authors it is ultimately worth it. Avoiding publishers or agents that ask for fees is a good start. Definitely start your publisher pursuit with those publishers that have open submissions even without an agent. At the same time see if you can get an agent to take you on. That way if one of these publishers picks you up in the process you can have your agent negoitiate for you. Or if you get an agent first you can have them carry on the sales pursuit for you. One great site to find publishers and agents that are reputable is Predators and Editors (http://anotherrealm.com/prededitors/peba.html) You can also check out the Writer's Market place and online publisher website for submission guidelines. Good Luck.

thank you very much for your response. It is of much help. I am still writing but of course I am perfectly aware that the tough part is being published and not writing. writing is a pleasure, finding a publisher is ...a torture. I am scared about the fact that they would use something mine without telling me and of course I wonder whether I will ever find somebody interested in my book...but I keep on writing for my pleasure. If i end up with something I think it worth publishing I will do my best to find a publisher...

my dear dear Aidonia...it is a long road until publication..I started writing something new this winter, then I found an interesting story to add as an end...a surprising end..now i have to remix it all together and edit and proofread and so on..unfortunately I am too busy for it now..but I will work again at my project as soon as I finish my PhD paper..and I am writing something new right now...actually I am always writing something..but I write in Italian, the language my heart speaks..anyway, when I finish I will translate something into English so to have your opinion about my work!!!

well those sites are ok i guess, are they the ones that say they do all the work for you? what do you get out of the deal? i once was hooked up with one of those but found that they give very little in return for your hard work...be very wary!

i have just written to them asking how much they charge the author for starting the process. if it comes true that they don't ask money in advance of course it is sure that they will ask the author a percentage on the sale of each book or so on...but this is a second step. I mean, if they don't ask anything in advance I will submit my project when I finish it and if they say..ok we will publish it, I will see what they offer as terms of agreement.
