What would you change about Target?

This is for employees only, since customers don't know how things are done there. But what would you change about your job there, or the jobs they had you do? I wouldn't stress zoning so much, it's boring and annoying. I hate it with a passion.

I u8sed to work at Target. I was a backroom associate. I would change tha fact that the over night crew when unloading the truck always put the heavy boxes on top shelves, and light small boxes on lower shelves. The reason I'm not working any longer is I fell off a ladder trying to get a big box (dish set) off the top shelf.

Oh my goodness, are you ok? I'm so sorry to hear that. Did you lose your balance or just lifting that heavy box did it?

Because of how big the box was I couldn't really see the steps. I missed a step. Luckly I had only afew more steps to go. So I didn't fall too far. But I did some damage to the ligaments in my ankle. It took me of my feet for afew months. When it healed (it will never be 100% again). I decided to get out of retail. I am doing home care provider work now.

As a former Target employee, I'd have long since changed how HR handles things with employees, as well as put people who knew what they were doing into the appropriate departments. Cases in point: I worked in Food Avenue, but they knew that my thing was electronics. I always had information on a new gadget or game that people were interested in. I would be doing my job in Food Avenue, and get a call from Electronics, asking me to identify an issue, and tell a customer just what they need. Whether it was portable music players (We carried iPods and a couple of others), blank media (Just because it's 52x media, it doesn't mean it won't work in your 24x CD burner. The discs will work fine, sir), or video games (My six year old is asking for{popular_game}, but what do I need for it?), I got calls with questions. When I asked if I could just be transferred into electronics, due to all the questions they called with, I was told that I could not go into Electronics. Figure that out. Also: I notified them three*months* before I was going to move that I'd like to fill out any paperwork needed to transfer to a store in the state that I was going to move to. I was told to come back the next day. I kept going back for a couple of weeks, and nothing happened, and no paperwork came my way. So I went back to working as usual, and when there were three weeks left, I submitted plenty of notice that I was ending my employment voluntarily. They asked why, and I let them know: I'm still moving. Imagine how I get nagged by my HR person for saying that, only to have to tell her that she kept pushing me off. I left that store and moved on to bigger and better things. I don't even shop at Target any more.

I think I would change the power differences between positions or better specify the powers given to people in different positions. In our store the specialists have many of the duties of team leads but don't get to have the same power or pay for that matter. People don't respect specialists even though their job is very tough. I tried helping our shoe specialist one day and was just like wow... I would also make all people who come in as a team lead or ETL or something like that work the sales floor a few times as a plan old team member so they'd have a better appreciation for the work we do. And along with another comment, I want people to be better trained in some departments. I know most departments and have had others teach me thoroughly how to work in different areas so I could be universal but it's frustrating to me when I've been there for 4 months and know more than some team members who have been there for years.... Sorry for the ramble session, I basically live at target these days

I agree with the comment on training. I was hired as a GSTL and I never got even 1 day of training on the floor. I didn't know how to do a pull, re-shop, nothing. And I was upset about it! How could I be considered someones boss if I didn't know the first thing about their job. It really wasn't a proper training for management in general.

Yeah I know exactly where you're coming from. I'm almost a specialist in Food Avenue, and I still get the same pay as all the other's there, but to me it's not fair because I do more work, I know more, I train people...it kind of sucks.
