I was in high school and wore glasses. We lived in California with a big open field behind us. I had taken my glasses off to get in the shower and suddenly had a feeling that I should step back. I put my glasses on and saw the scorpion. It blended in well with our linoleum too...I was very lucky.
Another experience we had was with a black widows web and a baby rattlesnake. My mom and I were leaving so she could take me to school when I noticed a HUGE spiderweb and it looked like something was caught in it. Well, we first noticed the black widow...but then noticed it was a baby rattlesnake in the web. It looked dead so my mom took a broom and started brushing it down the driveway...needless to say...it wasn't dead. It started snapping at her. She just kept sweeping. Now as we look back we laugh about it and wish we had it on video because my mom was shrieking as she swept it away.

I remember when I was only 5 or 6 years old I was on the side of the street under the street light and saw what looked like a 6 legged lizard. I got down on my knees to look better and actually started petting it. It did not try to sting me or anything, When my older brother saw it he took some large rocks and killed it, It saw only later that I realized how dangerous it was. As far as rattle snakes I used to catch and sell them ( I would not do it anymore and hope that this practice stop except for good research).)
