I Cried for a Man Who Died Before I Was Born

We have been watching the PBS documentary "The War". A young man serving in the war at age 21 spoke to his family in letters of how good things were. He said they needn't worry. The letters never described the horrors of war. He died a week before his birthday. I cried.

It just makes you think sometimes when you hear things like this. The men and women who protect this country are doing it selflessly and you don't hear much about them or their lives before; the families that they've left behind.
War is Hell and they try to keep that from their loved ones with the letters they write but when they are injured or killed for 'us', it just makes you wonder. I pray that one day we won't have to send our brothers, sister, sons and daughters to fight for mankind.
Pray for world peace, everyone.

It tears your heart whenever you hear of one of our soldiers losing their life. You cry for the families and friends and for the loss of a life.

when I was at school we had a selection of letters written by soldiers to their families during first or second world war...by Italian soldiers or English and American soldiers or French or German and so on..no matter where they came from...all the letters were so touching that you cannot help but crying on them being so young and so hurt and terrified and fragile or so strong and brave. There is a book that it is wonderful and teaches us the craziness behind each war..It is title in Italian is All'ovest niente di nuovo that is something like..Nothing new on the west front. It was written by E.M.Remarque and I strongly recommend you..I can still remember crying on its pages but feeling so touched after reading it...it shows us that no matter which part of the front you are...you are a human being!!!

Oh, Elusive, I understand just how you feel. I always have to have the tissue box handy whenever I watch these sorts of things. They really do go straight to your heart, don't they? It's a strange thing about me, but I also cry during sad movies-and, yes, books. It is something that I just cannot seem to control. I imagine it only means that you feel things very deeply.

Hi Elusive, this was indeed a very touching story, and I feel so sorry for thi sboy and his family. Wars are such a waste :(
and if only the world leaders would come closer to their conscious there wont be any of these ...
