My family and I are in serious need of a getaway and as much as I'd love to just take off for a couple weeks to somewhere warm, we just cant afford to do that right now so I'm thinkin maybe just a weekend getaway would do the trick for now....Problem is money like I mentioned so I was thinking maybe a weekend getaway to NYC or Vegas maybe...I know we could do Vegas for fairly cheap but does anyone else have any suggestions... Where have you been to for a quick family getaway? Or where would you like to go to?

Niagara Falls, Canada has excellent Family Adventure Weekend packages...We always stayed at the Hilton because it has the indoor pool/slide and the kids LOVED IT. www.niagarafallshilton.com/packages There's this place called Splash Lagoon in Erie PA that is great also. Look 'em up www.splashlagoon.com I've been there and the kids LOVED IT!!!

When I lived in New Jersey, we usually did day trips to New York or the Jersey Shore. Since you're on the east coast, you could go to Baltimore or DC for a weekend, or head north and hit Boston or somewhere in New England -- supposedly they have beautiful fall foliage. If you're not in the mood to drive, take the train. If you look up the tourism pages for whatever location you pick, you can usually find free activities.

I know what you mean! I could certainly use a vacation myself :) Have you checked into Gatlinburg, TN? My family goes there quite often. It's mostly shopping but they've got some other things there too like Ripply's Aquarium (awesome by the way). It's nice to go there every so often.

I would love to go to Salem, MA. You live close enough to go there. Though I don't know if it's a good place for families LOL.

Vegas is cheap?? I have never been there but I wouldn’t imagine it being cheap- and NYC is far from cheap! It is a great spot to go but not cheap—Now these days- a lot of places aren’t cheap- How about camping somewhere- Sure it is a lot of work- but it’s fun and cheap- How old is the family? Kids?? Where do you live- that is a big thing- depending on the cost to get there--

Our family getaways are usually to cooler places like a hill station because we live in a very hot place. For us the cheapest is Mt. Abu a nice hill station in Rajasthan, Inida.

I live in Massachusetts and I have brought my kids to New Hampshire for vacations. It doesn't cost too much. The area is so beautiful and relaxing. And there is so much to do. You have the mountains, the lakes, Canobie Lake Park (you can spend the whole day here, with the rides and shows). I've evn found a drive-in movie here.

Well, when we really need to getaway we head for the coast.Living in San Antonio it's only a 2 or 3 hours to the beach and a couple nights at a hotel isn't too expensive. So we take off and play in the ocean a couple of days.;-)

Can you get away and go camping? You only have to buy gas for the car then. Food is just ordinary groceries you buy anyway and if you camp somewhere good , there's no accomadation cost. Have a great time.
