Yes, I did. When I was still at college, all of us students volunteered to help dig the earth to plant trees in the square of the city and we worked for three days straight and it was so tiring work in the blazing summer sun. We worked for free, yet we felt very happy as we could do something for the city where we studied and years later the square became a very beautiful one with lots of trees around.

I have done volunteer work for a few reasons really. 1) There have been times in my life when I needed help, and no one was there to help me, and I know how that feels. So I never want anyone else to have to feel like that. 2) Because there have been a few times in my life when others helped me, and of course I want to pay it forward. 3) Because it just feels so good. Most of the volunteer work I've done has involved things I've gone through myself. I've done work in crisis centers and victim services areas, as well as helping the homeless.

I don't know if this counts but I belong to an organization called a Time Bank. What it is is I volunteer to babysit or something that I am good at and the hours are but into a "bank". I can use those hours when I need something. I've only used it once to get a ride to a doctors appointment because I don't drive.
