Hey, you social women! I need clothing advice. I'm actually GOING OUT Saturday!

My usual house attire - I take it this won't do when I go out, huh? lol.

OK, so here's my story. I am 43. I look younger many say but whatever. My husband and my sister's husband are going away for the weekend. We decided that we would go out to this bar nearby on Saturday night since neither one of us do ANYTHING ever. She is 39 with 2 small kids and is always in mommy clothes. I am always in casual stuff - jeans, baby T's, stuff like that. I used to be a real social butterfly. I was traveling and at all the bars after wrestling shows (I worked and work in pro wresting). I was always very confident and knew what to wear and how to act. Suddenly I am deer in the headlights stunned. I haven't been out socially in ages. This place is a medium sized bar with an inside and outside part, a band, and it gets pretty packed. I have no idea what ages go there but I have heard pretty much all ages. It's not a dive but not an upscale club. Having said that, I have no idea what to wear! I don't know what people are wearing these days out. I have all the clothes, all the trendiest stuff (You know, because someday, I may actually GO somewhere other than shopping.) so having the clothes isn't the issue. Picking out what to wear is! I am not out to meet guys or any of that but I do want to look nice and talk to people and have fun. I am thin, have very long hair, and a decent (average?) shape. What do you wear when you go out? I was thinking skinny jeans, high heels or boots, and ummm.....something nice but not cleavage baring. Socialites, party girls, women who go out more than once a decade, help me not to walk in and have all eyes on me, not because I look good, but because I look ridiculous. Ideas for a married woman who doesn't want to give off ANY "pick me up" vibes but wants to be noticed and attractive since I never am around here? This is sounding too much like work. Maybe I will just go to Denny's for a salad instead. :(

I think you think too much! LOL :-) It really does not matter what you wear. Be yourself, wear whatever you feel comfy and like yourself in. Then you will have a great time.

Yeah I overthink things like this too (as you might tell from my response). I often change before going out. But the truth is, if I am not comfortable in what I am wearing, or I'm worried that it doesn't look good, I will be uncomfortable the whole night out and just can't wait to go home and change!

Oh jeeze, I over think everything! I wish I wasn't this way but I suppose it is just that I haven't been out anywhere like this is so long. I have this age thing where I don't want to look like an old woman trying to be young but I don't want to look like an old lady looking old. It's a tough place to be. lol. Fun is the key and I will have fun. I talk to broomsticks so it really doesn't matter who is there. I am very social (I think, well, I was) so it should be a fun time.

Well I have good news and bad news. The good news is it matters little what you ware as you already know what looks good. The bad news is there no way that you will not be noticed. However the less reveling cloths you ware the better. But I am sorry to tell you no matter what you do all eyes will be on you when you walk in. But that is okay right? You may want to ware cloths three sizes too big or overalls perhaps. That would help. Well clearly I am no help here...just want to let you know what your facing. LOL Poor girl. I can walk into a bar and everyone looks the other way. You have not a chance of that happening. So just enjoy it while you can mommy.

Hahaha. That boosted my self esteem. :) I totally doubt anyone will notice me in a sea of hot 25 year olds but ehh...I just enjoy the music and the social aspect. You should come with us! I bet you would be the hit of the place and have a better time than us.;)

Hi dearie, I think you should go for something not glaring or flashy or even anything underplayed or subdued. You should have a nice synchronisation between the extremes. You do look younger than your age and lemme tell you , you are very very attractive and have a great personality. I think, you should choose something in black - it suits you like anything. Skinny jeans and high heels with black party upper would be a good idea. I am sure you will carry it off as gracefully as your attitude. Good luck! Have a blast and do keep us updated. smiles..

Thank you! The top is what is stumping me. I could wear a cami and a waist length black leather blazer to go with my shoes. It's not dressy or bikerish, just a cute little short blazer. After I change 400 times, I will end up in what I started with and hate it the whole night. lol. Thanks for your suggestions. I can do this. I just need to smile and remember the clothes don't make the woman!

I came to your discussion to see what others had said. I am doing the same thing this weekend, leaving my b/f and his girls and going out with a friend of mine and staying the weekend at my daughter's. I go out with my b/f several times a month to clubs but always wonder if what I wear is hip or not, being the stay at home internet junkie I am. Most times when I go out to the clubs to listen to music I see the girls in the skinny jeans, high heels (no boots yet here in the south) and cute short waisted tops, mostly the in black or dark colors. Have a great time, I know I am going to, have not been out without my b/f in over 1.5 now, should be an interesting evening.

Yeah those jeans are very in. It's cold here in NY but once in, high heels would be fine. The top, I have one in mind and it seems like it will balance out my shape and not make me look like I am dressed in saran wrap since the jeans are so tight. Have a great time! I haven't been out without my husband in ages. I can't even remember when. Heck, I haven't been out WITH him to a club or anything in ages. I gotta get out more. lol.

Hi! Well first I hope you have a great time - and whatever you wear, I'm sure you'll look great! It's pretty difficult for me to help you, as I live in the Uk where our "dress code" may well be different from yours. But personally - I wouldn't wear ordinarey jeans - at least not blue denim ones anyway - they are just too "everyday" and won't mae you feel special or like this is a momentous occasion!! Why not black jeans instead, or a pair of good, well-fitting, flattering black trousers? They're still comfy and casual, but will make you feel like you're making a but more of an effort! The boots sound good to me, though if there is dacing to go with the band, maybe a pair of strappy sandals might be more comfortble and less hot. And I would say a nice, fitted, bright coloured top, that shows off your great figure but isn't low-cut, cleavage-revealing, or trashy! A camisole with a short, leather jacker perhaps? A denim skirt with boot always looks good too! Good luck!

I thought about the cami and the fitted little leather jacket. I have black skinny jeans. I do want to wear the skinny ones because they are the hottest trend right now. Since this place is pretty casual, I don't want to appear as though I "tried" to get dressed. I want to look like I just happened in from umm....a late dinner or something. I think the top will be the important thing. It says a lot. A revealing one says something very different than a nice but not skin baring one. I better go raid my closet and see what's in there! Thanks!
