I attended a morning tea for new parents at my sons school on Wednesday and it was lovely. Not only was the coffee and bagels/cakes nice to eat, it was nice to meet other parents who were new to the school too. I also met three other mothers of children in my sons class and we were able to share similar stories with each other.
The PTA held the morning tea and I think it was a great idea and it has also helped me to be less intimidated or shall I say "feel more welcomed" and also to become more familiar with how the school operates, the fundraising activities for the year and the goals for the school.
I am liking my son's school very much and just wanted to share it with everyone!

That is so cute. I really admire you for being a stay at home mom. It is so important for the parents to know what is going on with their children. Kids count on someone to be there when they leave and be there when they get home. A lot of people in America don't appreciate the PTA and things like that, but it is so important to be involved.
I believe that when you have a child, you have to be prepared to give them the best chance possible and there is nothing more precious than your time. When I have children, I want to be a stay at home mom. It is easier to run the house like a home that way. I commend you on your commitment to your son.

Thanks Rozie. I actually wished I thought about staying home from the beginning. After maternity leave I went back to work and was allowed to take my son with me until he turned 6 months. A family member along with my father in law took care of my son while my husband and I worked. You know, we never even talked about me staying home and I don't know why either. Only when we moved to the USA, it became an issue, as we wanted to make sure that he settled in ok (being in a new place and all) and I am thankful that I did stay home. I am also thankful that I get to do things at his school, to meet new parents, to participate in fundraising activities and things like that, to meet parents and socialise. I am thankful that I was able to be a stay at home mom. :)

I wish that my sisters could be stay at home moms and I know that they do too. My older sister as six children, but she has to work because her husband doesn't. Then, my other sister has four kids(including the triplets). Now, she has a grandson at home, who is the new love of my life on the picture.
She stayed home the first seven years, after the triplets were born, but it was a stuggle. Then, while still out, she went to school to get her teaching degree. She is a three income family, now that her oldest daughter is working, but if any of them quit, it would be a struggle. As it is, there are eight people living in a two bedroom. I can't wait until they get a house.
I have watched my sister's struggle for years and I want only the best for them. Aside from God, my family is my life. Be there with him for as long as you can. It is so worth it.

I can't fathom what your sisters are going through, having to take care of their children AND work at the same time. I am lucky that I only have the one son but four or five children, that is a lot to handle all at one time. Thank God that they have you, that you all have each other to lean on, to help and so forth. My sister has four kids and it has been hard on her and her husband too, but well worth it in the end.

That is a great PTA tea party. I have not experienced such, because I don't have a child in school yet. Perhaps that is one party I will look forward to. Congratulations and enjoy your PTA.

That is truly wonderful news sweety! Here the kids go to Primary school from the age of 5 for 7 years and there are 8 years between my kids - the year between mt son leaving and daughter starting she attended the school nursery so I have now been involved with the school for just over 9 years and am very familiar with it! We are encouraged to help out in school in many different ways and I used to love doing so before my mobility problems! It is good that your sons school is doing things like the morning tea etc ! It is wonderful when you can be involved with the school and it helps your kids too! xxx

It sure is. I just received the classroom help schedule yesterday and I am scheduled once a month to help out in the literacy centers in my sons class for an hour. I can hardly wait! I hope I know what to do! Thanks mummymo :)

Your son sounds like he goes to a really wonderful school that gets parents involved. It's even better that you take the time to go.:) Morning tea is such a cute idea! At the daycare I work at, we have a breakfast every now and then for the parents to come and eat with their child and to meet other parents and talk with the teachers. It's nice to see those parents there and involved with their child. We also have holiday lunches for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I'm so glad your son's school in like that.

Lots of parent involvement which is great! I have never seen a school that wants parents to participate in a lot of things they do at his school. I can't wait to join in more activities and really get involved!

Now why does that sound familiar Maddy? :) We were talking about PTA earlier and I'm glad they had a social like this.
Oh I do like how there were no troublemakers this time. Less intimidating and more social, thats excellent for PTA.
I'm also happy to see things are going better for you in PTA and school involvement and your son and his endeavors in school. I hope you'll keep us up to date on things. If you have any questions or concerns, were here.
P.S: Forgive any late replies, my friends list is growing bigger by the days and its getting tough going through the conversations. Plus I've been a bit under the weather and over the top in work issues (production and brainstorming gets to be quite lengthy these days).

No need for apologies theprogamer. I often find myself logging on days later after several of my friends discussions are posted but I still try and post a response if I have one.
Thanks for taking time out to post to this one.
