Hi friends. I wanted to let you know that we let our loving dog Miko go today. He went very peacefully. Our vet was very tender and loving. We decided it was time. His lameness in his left leg was worse, his diabetes, his blindness, he developed epilepsy and we felt he was existing for us rather than having a good life anymore. I miss my buddy so much already. But I know he is in a better place now and he is not suffering anymore. My daughter and I are still heartbroken and it will take time to overcome this, but he will always be a loving memory for us. Thanks for listening everyone.

Sorry Mamasan. I know it hurts but you allowed one of your best friends to go peacefully. I'm sure no matter the choice Miko is still happy and still loves you and your daughter all the same. Give your daughter my regards as well. And spend some time with her, a little more than usual. And do it around where Miko liked to play or rest, I'm sure he'd appreciate the thought and act. Don't know what else I can say. I probably sound like a blubbering clown eh? I just want you and your daughter to know there are people who want to comfort you through this time. Take care -Pro.

Thanks Pro, it really is very nice to know there are people out here that want to comfort us in our time of loss. We have been reminiscing off and on about the good memories we had with him. He was/is very loved. He is sorely missed, but we know that he is in a much better place now, he is not in pain anymore. Thanks for the response and the kind words. I sincerely appreciate it.

Hi Mamasan! I've been busy with my studies lately. And I'm thankful for the BR you gave me on my response to one of your post about Miko. And I was wondering how he was. I'm quite sad to have read that he went on his journey. But I think you did the right thing. And it shows how much you loved him to let him go. You're brave. I will miss him too. I may have seen him just now by his picture. But from your posts, sssiiiggghh...he was a good friend. Farewell to you buddy...I will miss him too...(^^,) Keep on smiling Mamasan! and thank you for sharing your stories of Miko with me.

That is very nice of you to respond. I certainly appreciate your support and kind words of comfort. We really do miss our friend and we brought his ashes home the other day, it is good to have him home. I know he is at peace now. I did and do love that little guy! He did touch many people's lives and I am glad that he touched yours as well! Thanks again.

It's never easy to let a loved pet go. Because they are more than just pets, They are our friends, our family. We love them and try to do what's best for them. I know its not easy, but you did the best thing you could have done for him. You released him of his pain and suffering. And it takes a great deal of love and strength to do what you have done. Always keep the memories you have of him close to your heart. Through these memories he will live on with you. I am greatly sorry for your loss and know that there are no words to heal the pain. Just remember him always and keep his memories alive. And know that you did the best thing you could do for him, because now he is no longer in any pain. Much love to you and your daughter!

That's alright Gabs! I completely understand. It is hard, but we are pulling through, we know that he is in a better place and he isn't suffering. So, that puts my mind and heart more at ease. But I keep expecting him to walk around the corner or come hang out when I am eating dinner. He always was such a little scamp! LOL

This is always hard. We had to let our dog go about a year and a half ago after my wife had him for nine years. He had gotten old and was in constant pain. It took her a while to get over losing him, and she still misses him even now. It will get better with time.

Thanks Destiny007. I completely understand about missing a pet. I still miss my little Pudgie to this day and it has been 15 years since we had him. Miko was very special to us, we didn't have him very long, but he sure took our hearts by storm. He got to the point where he was in constant pain and he was existing for us more than for himself. I am glad he is at peace now. Thanks for the kind words and response!

I was so sorry to hear of your terrible loss mamasan. Losing a much loved pet must be the next worse thing to losing a child, and my heart goes out to you. A few years ago I had to put my two old poodles to sleep - one had terminal cancer and the other one kept having heart attacks, (they were brother and sister), so we decided to put them down together; it was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. But, we have to think of their quality of life, not our own feelings; you did the right thing, and it will take a while for you to get over it, but take comfort in the fact that he is at peace now.

Your very right Abbey, it was like putting my child to sleep. I stayed with him to the very end, I couldn't let him make this journey alone. We have been constant companions since he came into our home. He helped me get through my husbands leaving for deployment even as sick as he was, he was always there to comfort me, so I thought it best that I do the same for him this one last time. It is hard for us, but I know he is in a much better place now where he suffers no more. Thanks so much for your comforting words. It means alot to me.

I'm really sorry for your loss. It is always sad when a close member of the family passes on. But in his condition, it was probably the best and most humane thing to do to let Miko go, than to see him suffer further. Years ago, my wife also had a pet dog Vicki. At 12 years of age, she was getting old and had kidney problems, and she had to be put down. It was something that had to be done so as not to prolong Vicki's suffering. My wife cried for days as she was very close to her pet dog. It's alright to grief and let the wounds heal over time. Over time perhaps, you can get another new pet and learn to love him/her with the same love you and your daughter had given to Miko.

Thanks lexus! It is very true that we have to grieve and accept their leaving us. I am happy that he is not in pain anymore though. We just miss him so much. I half expected to get up this morning and feed him and give him his insulin shot. Then I remembered and it made me sad all over again. Time does heal all wounds I do believe. Thanks for responding!
