Do you know ppl who refuse to go to the doctor's or hospital even when they really need it? Do you try to force them to go or just let them stay sick? My Dad's Aunt tripped over a tent stake back when she was a teenager (in the '40's) and cut her ankle. She was terrified of doctor's and so she refused to go. She never allowed it to be treated, infection set in and she developed Gangrene. It spread until it killed her in her late 50's. She was wheelchair bound after about her mid '20's and even after medicine became more abundant and medical treatment more common she still wouldn't let anyone see it or have it checked. My oldest brother has his face swell up about twice it's size occasionally. After a day or two it goes back to normal. He won't go to the doctor either. I am stubborn when it comes to doctor's and hospital's too. I won't go to the doctor's unless I have like pneumonia or something and will only go to the hospital if I am in so much pain I can't see straight. I have a terrible of fear of doctor's from past problems. So, do you wait till your deathly ill or run to the doctor with every sniffle? Do you reserve the emergency room for life and death situations or go whenever your docto's office is closed? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I don't enjoy being sick,no one really does but if you are sick or have a problem then i feel you should go to a doctor...I have known stubborn people like that ,they will not go to a doctor but like this aunt you are speaking of,look what she got herself into by being so stubborn....I am not one to run to the doctor every little time i have a ache or pain, but i truely believe that we have doctors for the sick....I do know one thing,if you are sick, and too stubborn to go see a doctor you better be full of faith or you will die...

I guess I am middle-of-the-road when it comes to going to the doctor, twoey. I know that it's a necessary evil, lol, so I usually go 3 or 4 times a year. I have HBP so I have to keep check on it and have my checkups to receive medication for my bipolar condition. If I get worried, I will not hesitate to go and visit my doctor. In the event the office is closed I will go to the emergency room.

I hate going to the doctor an will put it off for as long as I possibly can. While that may not always be the best thing, it has worked out so far.

Small minor issues I deal with them as best I can. If I ruptured or broke or sprained a muscle or ligament or something I would visit my doctor. I am not scared of my doctor so I don't hesitate when it comes to anything major. If its my son, I don't hesitate there either because he has a heart murmur so I treat everything as an emergency (except if its a cold/flu or seasonal allergies). Bleeding noses and other things, I book in a doctors appointment for him. We have medical insurance through my husband so i don't hesitate to use it when we really need to!

Gosh, I wish I never had to go see a doctor but with my health problems, I haven't a choice. Other than that, I don't go at all unless I absolutely have to because I see enough of them as it is. Some people like the attention but I don't. I hate going to see a doctor. I just hate it.

I had trouble for a while even finding a good Dr... we have me in better shape, so I only see her rarely. I have a pretty good handle on how my body works and is supposed to feel. I also have a very high pain threshold. There have been times when I should have gone in and didn't... I'm still paying physically for those!

I stay away from doctors unless I actually need it and even if I do, and no one forces me to go, i.e. drives me there and shoves me into the doctor's office, I will stay away. The one bad experience I had with doctors was enough to make me stay away. I should have gone for fertliity treatments, but there was only one doctor in the whole city, and he was more inclined to the other way around, so he did not do a good job.

We go to the doctor if there is a persisting problem. We let our fevers be the fighting factor for an infection- like ear infection, or sinus infection. It's our body's immune system working. It it persists though, off to the doctor we go. We will wait until the office is open. The emergency room is for EMERGENCIES!

I know when the first brochitus cough comes & I also know I will only get sicker if I don't go to the doctor. The only times I go to the ER is when there is just something I can't handle. Like the night I sprained my ankle & it was swelling rapidly, or the Sunday I had a splitting migraine & no meds. I went that day on the doctor's orders. How about the night I had been attacked on the head by a cat & couldn't treat the back of my ear and no one to do it for me. I once asked my doctor if he thought I was a hypochondriac. He said no, when I came in there was always something really wrong. I've noticed I go a LOT less now that I'm not working in the "sick" building I used to work in.

i think people should go see the doctor for things like that i have a hard time keeping dr appointments but i'm learning that dr's are there to save my life and that a common cold can turn into something serious if you don't get it checked out

if i'm down with the flu then i usually won't go to the doctor, i'll treat it myself by buying medicines at the pharmacy. unless i'm having some kind of weird sickness then i'd go to the doc lol. i do know some people who just refuse to go to the doctor because they think that it's nothing when they're not feeling well. but i think that the best practice is to go to the doctor or do regular check ups, to prevent anything from happening. prevention is better than cure ;)

I couldn't tell you the last time I went to the doctor for being sick or hurt...actually yes I can, it was 4 1/2 years ago when I had strep and an ear infection the day after leaving the hospital when my second son was born. Partly it's beause I have no insurance and partly it's because I seem to get blown off usually. I have a pretty high pain tolorance and nurses/doctors seem to think I'm just being overly whiney about my problems beause they can't believe I could have waited that long before coming in....Luckily I don't get sick very often!

I go to the doctor if I've had something that its obvious after a week or so that my body can't fight on its own. I don't think I should just stay sick if there's something out there that can make me better. My mom on the other hand needs to be dying before she'll go to the doctor and even then sometimes she won't go. We do try and force her to go because we don't want her getting any worse then she already is at that point.

I haven't been to an emergency room since having my daughter 8yrs ago. I don't like doctors but I will go if something is seriously wrong. I have fibromyalgia. I went to doctors until they ruled out serious issues and then I chose not to go back or take the medication they prescribed. I don't consider a pain with no known cause to be serious and around here there's a saying " if it aint broke, don't fix it".
