My daughter likes running around naked..

My daughter who is 1 yr and 8 months old started a habit of taking her shirt, underpants, and sometimes her diaper off, and doesn't want them put back on. I don't know if she's getting hot but the weather doesn't seem hot, in fact it is some times cooler because of the monsoon rain here in our country. I don't know, maybe she's just discovering how to undress herself, but she's known how to do that a long time ago. She just likes parading in our house with nothing on except her diaper, which she also wants to take off, but I insisted and so thankfully she'd let that one on, but the rest of her clothes she just refuse to put on. Hmmm. Maybe it's just a phase. Do/did you ever have kids like that? What do you think?

I had gone through the responses which had given lots of ideas about your daughter’s behavior. Since I don’t have any daughter and I could only share with you my experience related with my son. When my son was about two years old he didn’t like to wear socks and shoes. He also felt reluctant to put on any clothes with collar as he felt very uneasy with something on his neck. Once we went for vacation in the highland resort where the temperature was very low then. He refused to put on any sweater instead he preferred to wear just a singlet. I scared that he might get cold so I could only hug him tightly all the time. From this I could know that some kids are particular with their characters. It could be the human instinct to dislike certain things like clothing. I hope when they had grown up everything will become normal.

I reason out that most probably your lovely girl is still young and she doesn’t know how to appreciate the beauty of clothing. By the time when she knows that clothing could make a person attractive, I am sure she then would like to choose her favorite clothes. It’s interesting to answer the question. My little boy is now at his 20s. Though he has already grown up, yet in the eyes of the parents he is still a kid lol... Now he behaves in a normal way as usual but he still likes to wear shorts and doesn’t like shirts with collar except going to work.

Oh, I agree. At this stage she hasn't any idea about clothes and all the things it is made for. I would gladly anticipate when the time she could actually appreciate and choose what she likes and doesn't like in terms of preferences in style of clothing. In the meantime I just allow her to explore what she is comfortable with, wether with clothing or none. That made me chuckle about your comment on your little boy... or should I say not so little boy anymore.LOL Hmmm, I wonder, I bet I would feel the same for my daughter once she has grown up! Now, that you have answered my question, I realize that some kids preferences, they still bring it along when they have already grown up... Hmmm.

Hi Ikbooi. My daughter seems not to make any choices of the clothings she takes off. It seems that all her clothes, she does want to take off. It's not these clothings are new, she's been wearing them actually for quite some time. I actually bought some new pairs of clothings just yesterday and I hope she will like to wear them. I bought clothes that are more bigger, wider, more loose and made of soft cotton. I do hope she would love to wear them. They don't have any frills, collars or anything. They are just as simple as can be. I could understand how your little boy was and the things he preferred. My daughter somehow was like that but not the same thing as she does with taking her clothes off, because this time it really has become a habit. By, the way how old is your son now? Is he still like that?

Oh, wow, sugarfloss. You are right, I have also noticed that her body is quite warm but I don't know about this thing eczema. Her skin doesn't seem to have any rashes at all. She has one mosquito bite on her back but that is all. Her back is completely clear except for this one bite. Hmmm. This makes me wonder. If it is eczema, shouldn't she have some kind of rashes? I hope to hear back. Thank you so much for responding.

Yeah, I also believe, it is another way of 'playing'. She probably took notice of her clothing and just taking all her clothes off seems to be fun for her. And staying that way, clothes free probably does make her feel comfortable.LOL

My son is three and he still does that! I used to worry about it but now I just leave him to it, he only does it at home so it's no harm. I think he's just more comfortable and free to easily climb around the place with no clothes on :)

I am glad that this new thing my daughter is practicing is very common. At least now I know it's just a phase that most children go through. Right now my daughter only, like your son, does it inside our home, so there's really no problem about it. I try to put the lightest clothes on her! Shirt with no sleeves and very light in fabric. And she still takes it off. Geez.

I wouldn't worry to much about it. I have three kids and all of them went though a stage were they would take thier cloths off al fast as I could put them on. They all grew out of it so I don't think it is a big deal.

Yep, I'm also learning and discovering it now, it's all just a stage little kids go through. So, now I hve no qualms about it. And thankfully, you and all those responded have reassured me about this concern. I now, learned that it is common in childhood. Well, what can I say, I am a first time mom and everything is new to me... thanks.

My daughter went through the same thing about this age. It is probably a phase she is going through. My daughter was awful about not wanting to get dressed or put a diaper on. I think a lot of it has to do with them just mastering walking and wanting to explore everything possible that they feel they are too busy to get dressed. If she is also taking off her diaper maybe it is getting close to time to look into potty training.

Thanks for letting me know that your daughter also went through the same at this age. I agree with you that this is sort of part of exploring things, taking her clothes off and not wanting it back on.. About the diaper thing, someone has also told me that this could be a signal that she may be ready for potty train. So I started the other day, but she still doesn't seem to know what she really have to do with it, but she likes it somehow.LOL

I believe I used to take a bath outside our house naked, up until I was 10 years old. I think it's the innocence that is with these kids, is what makes them do it. My niece is turning 5 this coming december, that she still runs around the house naked. There's a time for them to realize such sensuality, as for now, we just let them enjoy what they think and feel is fun!;)

I think sometimes it is hard to explain children's behaviors. If she doesn't feel cold, perhaps just let it be. Actually I think she us quite lovely:) By the way, my son also has some strange behaviors. Such as he doesn't like to wear underwear. Anyway, he is only 3 years old, so it's OK. I hope he will change after grows up.

My daughter is three years old, and she still ikes to be naked, my om said my sister and i did the same thing, as soon as we got dressed and she wasnt looking, we would take our clothes off, my sister was worse... My daughter likes to jump on her bed, and in the orning I get her completly dressed her hair done, and I will check on her like an hour later, and she has all her clothes off..she says she cant jump with her clothes on..LOL Yet just recently she has started liking to change her clothes, she changes them about three or four times a day, which is a pain for me, because when she changes them she throws what she doesnt want on her floor..but I dont want to stop her due to the fact that she is finally taking an interest in dressing herself and whatever she out on fo rthe day i let her keep..she is so proud of hereslef when she does it!

Oh my, I guess I have to be prepared that this will go on for quite sometime. Your daughter is so cute and delightful! Kids doing things things like these are so a pain but at the same time you cannot resist to be amused! These little naughty kids but sooo adorable! Awww, I have yet to discover this kind of progress as in dressing herself up, I am sure this would be a great experience for me as it is for her. Thank you for a wonderful share of your experience.
