Prescription Drugs...Too Many or Not Enough...

Do you take alot of prescription drugs? More than you want to take? Do you avoid taking them? I know several ppl that are more than 10 prescription drugs everyday, sometimes several times a day. Alot of them have numerous side affects that require another pill to stop that side affect which causes another and so on and so on. I know ppl that have to have a whole shoebox or large canvas bag to hold them all. It makes me wonder how many of them are really necessary and how many are just a doctor's way of keeping a patient quiet. We have a doctor here in town that is notorious for prescribing medications for everything and anything. It's like she isn't happy if she isn't writing a script. I dislike taking any medicine and actually the only thing I take is a daily aspirin to keep my blood thin b/c I tend to get blood clots. The only time I take medicine is when I have pneumonia and have to. Do you know or have a doctor that is pill happy? Do you think you are taking too many pills or just the right amount? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I'm like you and hardly take any medications..occassionally will take an anti-biotic when I have bronchitis, but that's it...like you for most of my "ills" will only take aspirin...got that from my great-grandmother's beliefs whom I wrote about in another one of your discussions. For many things I'll take more natural cures, or herbal things. No, my doctor isn't too pill happy..LOL...But I do know other people with other doctors and they are like walking medicine cabinets...and like you said, they sometimes have to take another med just to combat the side effects of the other medication(s) they are taking...to my mind it's insanity...I think in general we've gotten a bit too pill happy

I prefer not to have to take medication unless it is absolutely essential and even then I am wary. I feel that these days it is too easy to simply dish out pills and potions without giving thought to the consequences. How many people are addicted to painkillers now? How many people can't get through the day without medication? Nope, not for me thanks, I will only take medication when it is really necessary

My doctor is very pill happy. if he had his way I would be taking about 7 different pills. I am seriuosly thinking of throwing them all out and enjoying my life and let nature run its course.

I take a number of medications thanks to my health. I hate taking pills and forget to take them often but I know I should and need to and put it off and put it off again till it's too late to take them and don't. LOL I have so many that I can't stand it and two have to be taken on an empty stomach at different times. Geeze. What a pain in the rear they are!

I try not to take any, my best friends mother is very addicted to pain pills and she has been for a long time. This has made me very leery about trying to use any for my ongoing insomnia problem.

i agree with you. my dad is that kind of person, has a pill box that has tons of meds. he has diabetes and arthritis. he does need to take some of them, but all? they just put him on a new one, that i don't like. i don't believe in meds. the only thing i take is an over the counter allergy pill. my daughter just went to the doctors for headaches and they put her on prescription migrane med and a sezuire med. can you believe that. they don't even know what is wrong - could just be allergies. i am maddddddd.

I think I take too many, but there is only one I could probably do without. The other two are not an option, and the one is to help alleviate some of the problems that one of the necessary meds cause. If I had a choice I wouldn't take any, but there isn't much I can do about that.

A "pill happy" doctor wouldn't be my doctor for long. I couldn't swallow all those pills anyway . And I wouldn't want to take most of those meds because of the side effects. The only pill I take regularly is my allergy pill. When I have an ache, I take aspirin. And if I have a sinus attack, I'll take Sudafed but that is it.

ALthough I know that some people do need to take a huge amount of medication each day, I also know some that really are over medicated and would probably do just as well with less. MYself I avoid taking medication as much as I can, although of course I will take it if I need it. My doctor has a very balanced approach and I am very happy with her in that sense.

I used to take a lot when I was married to my ex-husband. He managed to lose our nice 3 bedroom house on 3 acres of land (never do business with your family) and we ended up moving to a 35 year old trailer that was just mold infested. I was on 7 or 8 meds at that time with allergies, sinus infections, thyroid problems, depression/anxiety and so on. When we seperated and I moved in with my friend for awhile, I ended up going down to 2 medications. Surprise! My allergies cleared right up and so did my asthma. So I am taking multivitamins, thyroid meds and my depression meds. That's all I take anymore.

Bu tI have tried no tto take them and I get very sick and I have to start taking them again to feel better and like a person again.
