I definitely think that heart-felt compliments are a great way to make another feel good about themselves, but it must come naturally. If you don't believe what you say, then it's a negative gesture as far as I am concerned. Whenever I see someone whom I know or not that deserves a compliment for something or other, I will pay them one. It always makes me feel good when someone notices and comments on something I have done or the way I look. =D

What to do to please someone? Well, it is a good topic to talk about. I think that it is better not to give any comments to the person before you get familiar with him/her in order to avoid unnecessary troubles. It is always better to say something nice to people without hurting anyone. To hurt someone is much easier than to please someone. If you don't want to say something nice, then keep your mouth shut. This is my humble voice.

just talk to them about things that they like, give compliments, make them laugh.
