What is your favorite dish to make? One that you either learned on your own or someone taught you? Mine is Lasagna. I learned to make it on my own and I make it once or twice a month. Next to Pizza, it's my favorite. Here's how I make it. 1)I brown a pound of beef in a pan and drain it. I put the meat in a bowl and add a carton of cottage cheese and a can of spagetti sauce. 2)I put a layer of dry (yes, dry) lasagna noodles in the bottom of my cake pan, spoon a layer of the meat mixture on top, and lay slices of velveeta on top. 3)Then I add another layer of dry lasagna noodles and another layer of the meat and velveeta. By this time I'm at the top of the pan and I sprinkle it with shredded cheese, sprinkle a little parm cheese on it and a little cilantro. 4)I sit it on the rack in the oven and carefully pour water into the corner of the pan until I can just see it near the top of the lasagna. 5)I cook it at 350 for about 45 minutes or until it's nice and bubbly. It turns out perfect everytime. The noodles are always just right. So, what is yours? And I know some of you men cook too...so let's hear from you too LOL I know one man that's got a great chili recipe...maybe he will share it. By the way, why is the dish you pick your favorite and are you teaching it to others or your children? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I don't think sharing recipes are allowed here, but I guess I could e-mail it to you. It is really good, I had someone who loved pumpkin pies and when he tried mine, he said it was one of the best pies he had in a long time..:)

It sounds rather yummy mate but please...what are velveeta, and cilantro? And where do you pour the water? Not into the dish of ingredients surely...how much water? I use dry noodles in my lasagne but I make my own sauce with meat, onions, garlic, grated carrot, a tin of diced tomatoes, tomato paste, a bay leaf, basil and oregano. My layers are pasta, meat and bechemel sauce with a final layer of grated cheese. It's rich and delicious.

Cilantro is a spice...kind of like oregano and Velveeta is a type of cheese that comes in a box...you can use grated cheese in place of it if it isn't available where you are. Yes, the water goes right into the dish of ingredients, just pour it into a corner...it's what cooks the noodles. I've never measured how much water...I'd say between 1-1 1/2 Cups...just enough so you can start to see it by the top of the top layer. I hope I've explained it for you. Yours sounds really good too. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

My favorite dish to fix is one that a friend of mine taught me. It doesn't have a specific name, so I always call it my "pork chop yummies". LOL 1) Season 6-8 medium sized pork chops with garlic salt and some lemon pepper 2) Place them in an ungreased baking pan (I use a glass one) 3) Add one large can of condensed cream of mushroom soup and two cans of water (mix it up before adding to pan) 4) Add up to two cups rice (white or brown) 5) Place in oven at 350 to 400 degrees for 1 1/2 to 2 hours Keep an eye on the water and add some if necessary. Usually when the rice is done, the pork chops will be just right and fully cooked. You don't have to use cream of mushroom soup though. I've tried it with cream of chicken, and it tasted even better.

Sadly, my favorite thing to make is chocolate chip cookies - the kind where the dough is ready in the tube! Really, I just like the little bites of cookie dough I steal while I am baking and I love that thre is no mess to clean up! Pitiful, I know, but I spend so much time in the kitchen making actual meals that when it comes right down to it my favorite stuff is teh stuff where I cheat on the preparation and have extra time for myself!

I love cooking East Indian food. When I make a "dhal," I sautee certain spices, the seeds till they pop, the powders after that, and then the dhal beans. At the end, I make a "chaunce", that is, sauteeing more spices in a little ghee and then pouring that into the finished dhal. The same with different vegetable preparations. Also the savories...I love making the filling, then the dough, rolling out a little of that, and fill with the vegi filling, and then folding the edges...that's fun. And then deep frying the samosa in golden ghee till it's golden, too. Making the pouris is fun..if I get the dough right, and roll it out with the correct thickness, it will puff up beautifully in the hot ghee. Cooking Indian food may be time consuming, but it is alot of fun.

My favorite homemade dish is good old-fashioned Chicken and Noodles, twoey. My kids grew up loving the way I prepare it. I don't do anything special. I just boil the chicken and season with salt and pepper. About 15 minutes before I turn it off I add the dry noodles. I always add a little butter to the finished product after I turn off the pot. This makes the noodles extra creamy. I see many people use Cream of Mushroom or Cream of Chicken soup in their recipe, but that doesn't work for me. I love the plain noodles.

Lasagna is one of my favorites as well. I make it about once a month. I use dry noodles as well, along with homemade tomato sauce, ricotta & mozzarella cheese and whatever meat I choose to use that particular time. When I make it with ground beef, I brown the beef and drain it. Then I mix a large tub of ricotta with 1 egg, 1/4 c. of parmesean cheese, and a tablespoon of italian seasoning. I put a little layer of sauce on the bottom of the pan, then top it with a layer of ricotta then meat and shredded part-skim mozzarella. That's topped with a layer of sauce and another layer of noodles which starts the layers all over again. After the last layer of ricotta, meat and mozzarella, I skip the sauce and put down noodles. Then I cover it with sauce. It gets covered in foil and baked for about 45 minutes. Then it's topped with a nice layer of buffalo mozzarella and baked until the mozzarella is bubbly and starting to brown a little. Nummy.

My favourite dish to make is spicy meatballs. I do a little bit of cheating with this to make it go further!!! lol. I always like to experiment with dishes that I already know how to make and whem I get very adventurous I will make up my own with what I have in the fridge. Here is the recipe for spicy meatballs. 1. Put one pound beef in a bowl. Add 2 eggs, a handfull of breadcrumbs (cheat). Mixed herbs and 2 tablespoons of chilli powder. And chopped onions. 2. Mix all together with your hands until it is nice and sticky. Roll them in your hands to whatever size you want them. Then roll them in breadcrumbs. 3. Put the meatballs in an oven proof dish and cook at 350 degrees for about 45 mins. 4. Serve in a spaghetti sauce on a bed of pasta, or on their own hot or cold. Perfect even for a snack on their own!!!!

Here are a couple of my faves.. rarely want to cook, and do mostly because I love to eat, so I tend towards easy, quick recipes unless I an in a special mood, when I usually use a recipe from my files (I am strange, I don't much like to cook but i love to collect recipes lol). TUNA SURPRISE SANDWICHES Toast one piece of bread per sandwich, these are open faced. Place toast on baking pan. Pile on some tuna straight from the can, then some cooked green veggies of choice. Thickly dollop on some golden mushroom soup straight from the can and top with shredded cheddar cheese. Broil or bake until cheese is melted and bubbly. That's it. This is the only way I will eat spinach, but my favorite veggie for it is chopped broccoli. They are quick and you can make them as you go till everyone if full. Also a great way to use leftover veggies the next day. SLUMGULLION (my mom's recipe) Brown 1 pound ground beef with 1 chopped onion in a large saucepan. Drain. Add two 16 oz. cans red kidney beans with juice, one 16 oz. can of tomato sauce and one 16 oz. can of tomatoes (any style). Bring to boil. Add 16 oz. elbow macaroni and cook until macaroni is done. Season with salt and pepper to taste. To serve, pile some shredded cheddar cheese in bowls and top with slumgullion. Enjoy. This is an inexpensive and filling meal for several people. She raised three kids on this on a single mom's pay. We still love it and ask her to make it frequently. Mushroom Burgers Make large burgers and brown in skillet. Drain. Add 1 can of golden mushroom soup for every pound or so of burgers. Cook until soup is bubbly hot. Season with salt and pepper. Serve as a main dish. I hope you try and enjoy some of these family favorites. All measures can, of course be adjusted to your liking.
