I am no longer a smoker but when I heard this I was extremely mad. The taxes on cigarettes have been raised 73 times since the year 2000 increasing the cost of a pack of cigarettes by 80%. I think that this is outrageous and yet once again the goverment is going after smokers, they want to raise the taxes on cigarettes by 156% !!!! I know alot of people think that taxes should be high on them to stop kids from smoking ( not going to happen) they will beg borrow and steal to get the money for them and yes I know its unhealthy hence the reason I quit but the reason I am so mad is why doesnt this great american goverment take a pay cut instead of beating us with more an more taxes?? we already pay taxes on everything but air and as soon as the goverment can figure out how to tax it they will, we pay taxes on water, on everything we buy on our income when does it stop?? when does the american public stand up and say enough?? I have written my congress man about this and got a reply sorry but i think the tax is a good thing because it will help the american people stop smoking... you want the american people to stop smoking pay for their prescription to stop. Thank god for insurance because the medicine i used to stop smoking was 190.00 . Ok I guess I will be done with my rage... what are your views on this ?? Do you agree that the taxes should be raised or should they not? thanks in advance and please feel free to share all opinions and rages

It isn't the governments job to decide whether Americans should smoke or not. In fact it is none of their business, since they hit us with every smoking related tax possible... which means they have a lot on money coming in from the smokers. How stupid can they get anyhow? The democrats are trying to finance a huge expansion for uninsured children by this $.61 a pack tax increase while at the same time hoping it will cause smokers to quit? That tells me that they are not all that serious about that new plan. If they was really serious then they would use something that would really generate some money such as maybe a $.61 a gallon gas tax. I am very sure that plan would have a lot less support if that was the case.
