Of course everything depends on the price. I have a Compaq, which is now part of Hewlett Packard, and so far it has been good. When I went to get one I avoided Dell not so much because I thought it would be an inferior laptop, but because from experience I new that the Dell tech support was not good. I have a relative who has a Toshiba and they are happy with it also.

I have a Dell desktop that has given me very little trouble. The problem I had with Dell was some very bad software that came with it and their tech support was of no help and even lied to me a couple of times. At the time I owned stock in the company and only got my problem resolved by emailing their shareholder relations department and got replacement software. But because of that I didn't get a Dell laptop and later sold the stock because I figured the poor tech support would eventually hurt the company.

If its a laptop don't get HP or Compaq, the recent models from 2002-present have a defect in the AC adapter design. They are pronged based and the prongs easily break if you try to use a lot of models as laptops. I've personally gone through this as have thousands others. In fact HP won't admit they did wrong, but they released a product that "bypasses" the AC problem, rather terribly I might add.

Well, I'd go for a MAC Laptop, it's really pricey, but I think that it would be worth it, it's just too bad, I don't have that enough of money to buy one, though.

Go gateway, sony or dell. Also search Newegg, Tigerdirect and PC world for their reviews and user reviews on laptops! You need to do this so you don't get screwballed with your purchase.
