would you ever go to your boss with personal problems?

I would never, but a coworker of mine did and low and behold the boss used it against her. If you have a story let's hear it.

It depends of what kind of relationship I do have with my boss, if we are friends, of course I will tell him or her, but if there is not familiarity, I wont tell my boss about my personal problems...

Yes I believe that business is business and personal is personal. I am currently separated and my boss is constantly asking me what is going on...I just tell her that she will know when my divorce is final because I will change my deductions then.

Definitely agree. I also feel that my boss has no business asking me about my personal life.

Yeah, it is better to have personal life and work life apart... I guess that way you can be out of trouble... because having problems in one of the faces of your life is enough...

I have never spoken to my boss about any of my personal problems while I was under his employment. But during that time I worked for him, I was going through serious problems with my ex. On days I would come to work with bruise, he would ask about them. I would make up stories so he wouldn't ask more questions. My friends knew what I was going through, though. They were the ones who would let him know I had some problems. But the knowledge of these problems didn't change the way my boss treated me. In fact, it seemed to me that he became more concerned about my situation that he evaluated my performance and promoted me much quicker than the rest of my co-employees were promoted, which, I guess, was good for me. However I was only able to discuss about my problems with my him long after I had resigned from the job.

I am sorry that you have had a tough time. It sounds as though thank goodness those bad times are over. Thank you for the post.
