Do you believe in premonitions? Have you ever had one?

Last night I watched the Sandra Bullock movie on DVD, "Premonition." In it, she sees her husband's death. One thing I found really interesting was in the Special Features section of the DVD. They had cases in which real people (not actors) had premonitions of things happening: plane crashes, train wrecks, deaths in their family. Do you believe in this? Has anything like this ever happened to you or someone you know?

I've had 2. Nothing major, nothing serious, but I have had 2 dreams that have come true.

How did you react when your dreams came true? Were they different types of dreams than you normally have? I've never experienced it, so I am curious. Thanks for responding.

The first one I started having as a small child & it came true when I was in 10th grade (15.) I had it pretty frequently as a small child & less as I got older. The other I woke up angry about the dream & did something that, when the dream came true, had kept me from becoming angry. I was kind of weirded out, but because I had gotten up and eaten, I found the dream amusing!

Yes, I believe in them & have had a few. Usually about school or work. Usually not really serious stuff.

I think it's good that it wasn't serious. That's a lot of pressure to carry around, thinking something bad is going to happen.

I've had a few, but I regarded them as lucky guesses. I know the future of the weather because of my dreams, but I do not regard that as important, and I did see a house in my dream that I saw later on. However I usually keep quiet about such things. There is no reason to make people think you are in league with the devil when you are not and maybe the dream is a warning.

I don't think of these things as being good or evil, just unexplained. However, a lot of things in life have gone unexplained for years, and then suddenly, the mystery is revealed, and we all accept the thing as normal. I actually think that it may be some kind of access to an area of the brain that is not necessarily developed in all people. They say we only use a small portion of our brains for normal activity.

I've already had a really strange feeling that something was about to happen but I didn't know what and something would happen but not as drastic as my "feeling" led me to expect; does that make any sense? It must be scary to be like that, I wouldn't want to be able to see the future. Annie

I'm guessing that the fear associated with "knowing" probably has something to do with how bad it is. At different times in my life (when I was a girl), I would "know" something right as it happened or seconds before. However, I don't consider that premonition in the case of these people who knew quite a bit (weeks or months...at least days, anyway) before it happened. Mine was only seconds.

I've never had a premonition, but my sister has had something similar. She has had visions/dreams of our dad, whom we don't get along with and he's a terrible person, and when she has the dream, something negative always happens to him or his wife. Nothing bad, but it's always something unfortunate for them. It's so weird how it happens. They're the only people she has visions for too. I think it used to freak her out, but now it doesn't bother her as much.

It surely is unusual that it only happens with things about your dad! Who can explain this stuff? Somehow I think we are connected with our family and friends on a different level, but not everyone can call up those inner connections. Obviously, your sister can.

I have had several odd experiences in my life. Such as the time I wigged out on LSD and and could see my friend leave his apartment 2 miles away, running to the place I was at as he knew something was wrong. A life changing experience which I guess I was seeking. Or when my ex wife asked me to marry her and the loud voice in my head was shouting NOOOOOOOOOO! but my lips said yes. (BIG mistake) The flash of a very strange kind of light I saw shortly before the place I was working was hit by an earthquake. The night my girlfriend was raped I knew something was happening, I could barly stand, I was staggering about the house, vomiting whilst trying to dial her cell phone, that was the last time. Horror, dread, helpless. So yes, I have had these things in my life.

Wow, those are some really strange things. I guess the worst thing about the premonitions is not being able to do anything about it, which is what happened in the movie. Ultimately, the main character was not able to stop fate. I really find the story about the earthquake compelling! I think it might be easier to key into things that happen to people we know and love. When something so random as an earthquake happens, that is really beyond the norm.
