This is a real incident that happened in a loal hospital in bangalore,India. A 4 year old girl was admitted in the hospital due to leg fracture. As it was an open fracture she had to undergo an operation to stich the protruding bone back in place.though it was quite a minor operation she was hooked on to a life support system as a part of the process. The doctors had to input some data prior to the operation to suit different conditions.Thereafter the operation proceeded.Half way through the proess the life support system suddenly went dead. THE CULPRIT:Some one was using his/her cell phone putside the operation theater. And the frequency had affected the system. The little girl young and innocent as she was died soon after.Be compassionate!Do not use your cell phone especially at any hospitals or within the aircraft or any places where you are told not to use it..you might not be caught in the act,but you might have killed someone without knowing.sometimes its a matter of 'LIFE AND DEATH...!!!'

Ok, you don't stitch the bone back in place, the femur muscles are strong, usually a rod must be used to fix the bones in place. I really don't believe that this is true. Even if it were, the technology for cell phones has changed so much over the years, that it would not necesarilly be true today.

Most places use cell phone reception blockers to prevent cell phone from being used at all in certain areas. Also many frequency sensitive rooms or equipment are shielded with materials that prevent cell phone or other signals from penetrating the circuitry and electronics. Plus many places take cell phones away at the door if they equipment inside is deemed sensitive to electronics. I blame the hospital in this case for not properly protecting sensitive areas and equipment from cell phone interference.

Hmmmmmm, thanks for posting this link; I had a feeling this story was just a myth designed as a scare tactic. It is amazing what people will believe on the internet today!

Violeta_va responded to this discussion telling even doctors are using mobile phones, b.i. in the delivery rooms. I think there must be a clear understanding of the use of the mobile cell phone (thats the bad guy right here!) and the use of a cordless or wireless hospital phone system. The last one is most often used. The frequencies of that phones are harmless for the live support systems, of course they are harmless. BUT the normal cell phones, the ones you can use OUTSIDE the hospital are the harmfull ones. For visiting people in hospitals it might look as if hospital personel staff are calling with normal cell phones. They are not. They are using the hospital phones system. For outsiders we are unable to notice the difference. So keep the story in mind, have a heart, dont use your cell phone!

the doctor in the delivery room did not use a hospital phone he used my brother-in-laws mobile (they had an issue with my cousins doctor who wanted them to wait 2 more days for delivery but the teins were having major health issues) the doctor rang my brother in law and my brother in law gave the doctor the phone to talk. I was there I saw the whole thing, the nurse explained that with all the new technology it is not a major issue (the hospital was opened in 2005)

People don't pay attention to the signs posted all over hospitals and the hospital staff isn't on the lookout for those people. All in all people are stupid!

that is a very sad and tragic story but I also have seen many users on cell phones going through the hospitals too ... could it be that the hospital it's self had a problem and tried to blame to incident on someone other then themselves... sure makes one wonder ... great discussion these are ones that we all can have an opinion one :)

I honestly dont know what to think of it. Last year when I had an operation and was in the recovery room I asked If I can talk to my little boy and they gave me a mobile phone to call. Later the same night I told the nurse to conect the line so I can call my friend and tell her about the operation she told me that it was better If I call on my mobile. I have seen lots of doctors using mobile phones in the hospital including the delivery room.

i''d have to agree there, but in the case of incredible stupidity, there is another solution: there is a certain device that they use in the amsterdam music theatre that blocks out mobile signals altogether, for those that refuse to give up "being availible" so all those that do that: remember this story
