Specially in cities in India it is very common to experiance voltage fluctuation..The residence also face irregular power cut without people being informed..on our enquiry only we know electricity board have done this power cut for their maintenance work..sometimes the power supply is of low voltage and if it happens during mid night ..thats it..our sleep is gone..
Apart creating financial losses to us our appliances get damaged on account of voltage fluctuation.sometime we meet heavy losses if our Television and fridge incurr some bad damage and doesnt function after that..
One of our family friends Television set got totally damaged due to this high pass of current a week ago..they have now bought a new set..
In case if we make complaints to Electricity board... higher officers in this regard , the answer is that they will give assurance it will not be repeated again..

When BEST was managing the electricity in Bombay, it was one of the well managed companies in eelctricity field. There were not much fluctuation and hardly any failures.
Electricity departments in India are plagued with lack of funds mainly because they are providing free electricity to farmers and gross misuse and corruption in the departments in addition to power losses in transmission. The efficiency level and R&D is very poor. If the attention is given to these aspects, then there will be least fluctuation and less powerfailures.

Well, dear u r not only one to suffer it, its same in Pakistan. power failure, voltage fluctuation, load shedding is common here , specially in summer and some times it play hide and seek for 10-12 times a days
Sure electrical appliances are damaged due to that, the most loss we bear is regular damaging of TUBE lights due to this fluctuation.
U r lucky that official atleast listen to u, here when ever we dial its not responding. they simply unhook receicer and place it at side.
its really irritating and distrubing as well.

I completely agree with you that voltage fluctuation damages our home appliances. We should be more careful and should install MCB and automatic Voltage stablizers in our house. I appreciate your concern, you should write to Electiricity Department in this case.

Hi,
Good stabliser or UPS may help for those households. Other than the govt authorities have give proper methods for attaining proper electricity. In India I hope privatisation under one unit like those of Telecome, which is in better grounds after that. I if private parties are given for this electric supply more competetions more quality wise improvment may be seen. Those other methods from windwheel, dams, and other various electricity generating concept are to improvised. I hope if private parties invited definitely a better service will be provided.

This is why I like your discussion my friend. You bring the daily matters come to the desk. :)
Talking about electricity and voltage fluctuations, you are talking about the same thing happen in Jakarta. I think besides the traffic jam, the motorcycle / motor bike in your country, this is another problem that we face currently in Jakarta. Electricity has become a major concern. Our government even make a campaign to safe electricity. Sometimes we even have blackout for a few days. Imagine... Phew...
It's not the only problem that has to be solve. Like you said, the fluctuations of electricity has brought another problems. Have you ever heard that the people in Indonesia spend the most in electronic appliances? I'm talking about TV, DVD, computer, fridge, etc. It's broken easily. Mainly because of power fluctuations. I think if we open a service centre, we can make a lot of money here. Hahaha... :)

Iam overwhelmed by your appreciation..tnks a lot..Actually these are some situations faced by people in most underdeveloped countries..
Good sense of humour about opening a workshop..you know something people who run servicing workshops here in India earn good sum..as their appliances get damaged very often..rated +++

This is pretty common in Third World countries, I presume. I understand you may encounter this in developed countries, too, but it is quite rare.
In most developing countries, China and India included, there is a major lack of very good town planning. Their populations are increasing, but not commensurate with the services, such as electricity and water supply. It is something that you live for.
And then litigations against damages to appliances are not as ruthless as those obtaining inthe US!
Try suing your power supplier when your electrical appliances are damaged because of the power supply fluctuations!
