Do you boil your water first before drinking it directly from the faucet?

My mom always do that. She first boiled the water before drinking it. She just say that it is better to boil first the water because this will help kill some of the bacteria that are still present in the water, though it has already some chlorine. The reason why she do it because there was a time when she was getting some water from the faucet using a transparent bottle, the color of the water is not clear with some brown spots. It happened only once. During that time, she don't rely anymore to the water even though it came from the faucet.

We have a water filter fitted directly on our faucet and use the filtered water for drinking, coffee and cooking. I also give the cats filtered water. I worked for a chemical company for fourteen years and we supplied all the Sodium Hypochlorite and HFS for the city water. It is so chlorinated that you can smell it when you turn on the water. Once it's filtered, you can't smell or taste any chemicals. Most city water systems are monitored very closely for any bacteria. The brown spots in the water could have been caused by older pipes in the house that had sediment in them. If it makes your mom more comfortable with the water she is drinking, then I think she is making a safe and healthy choice.

This is a very informative answer. Thanks surfette for sharing your thoughts and opinions. We don't have water filter on our faucet. Maybe that is the reason my mom saw some sediments or brown spots which may probably come from the pipe itself. Thank you so much surfette. Welcome to myLot. Have a nice day and God speed!

I mother used to do that also but when water stations became popular where i live... we don't drink from the faucet anymore... we always order water from the nearest water station... i think that is safer that drinking from the faucet...eventhough we have to pay for the water that we drink i think that is okay...

Hi aseretdd.. Really, that is cool. Well that is also a nice idea. We also buy some mineral waters but because it is expensive, then we rarely buy it, that is if there is no water in the faucet or if we are going somewhere else outside the home. Thanks for sharing your opinions! Have a nice day and God bless!

Yup, we do boil it...used to be. Today, we drink from bottled water (mineral) so we don't boil anymore...we shifted at once ever since my son suffered from severe diarrhea, and we attributed the source to be from the water we're drinking from the faucet.

Hi psyche49f.. You made the right decision of buying mineral water instead of boiling it, though boiling water is also the best method of purifying the water. Have a nice day and God speed!

Hello cici6880, that is true. There are lots of bacteria in the water, so we have to boil it for it to be killed. Have a nice day and take care!

hi... we don't since we don't drink it straight from the tap. tap water is just used for washing dishes, clothes, taking a bath, and cleaning. we buy bottled water in 5 gallons from a local water purification and bottling company. they deliver weekly to our house.

Hi shiloh.. Thanks for sharing your opinions. Well, we're still considering tap water as eligible to drink, though we have to boil it for our safety. Have a nice day and God speed!

For now we're okay using Brita filter. But if we start to have health problems then we might consider boiling. For babies we buy distilled drinking water.

over here it's not advisable to drink water directly from the tap. At home, we have a water filter, and even with that we still boil the water first before we consume it.

yes we boil water but only for some times becasue usually we buy our potable water from the nearest refilling station in our home. we also have water dispenser so its no longer a problem. ever since, we have no health problem realted to our water consumption and that is good.

Hi braveheart! We do not drink water from the faucet mainly due to health issues. Though water companies assure that the water is chlorinated, we still aren't sure the cleanliness and sanitation of the pipe where the water flows. So, it's better to be on the safe zone..we always buy drinking water at the water station. But what your mom has been doing is right. Boiling the water before drinking it would kill the bacteria present in it.

Hello carol.. It is true that we can't really assure if the water that comes out from the faucet is really 100% clean and safe to drink. Thanks for sharing your opinion! Have a nice day ahead of you!

some places the water may need this but we have never needed to do it. When I've been in other places I've always used bottled water. But when at home, I don't bother.

it is right to boil the water before drinking. i don't know whether you don't boil it before.but what you said make me think you do not to .i don't think the water from the faucet is clear enough to drink although we do drink some water from the stream. i think it is healthy to drink the steam without boiled somethims. but don't dink it too offen to keep health .i think it is not helpful .

i used to like boil it becuase i like the thought of killing all of the bacterias, but just for convenience sake i have not done that for awhile, and often i would drink from the faucet directly. but now more like than note i have it go through a filter. i find that better than boiling because it takes less time and better than just faucet because it is cleaner.

For the last few years all my family members have been taking boiled water from the faucet. Though I do not like boiled water as its taste does not suit me, I have got used to it over the years. People say it is good for those who occasionall y suffer from stomach upset.

The water from the faucet is not that safe in our place, so we rather buy mineral water/distilled water for drinking.

Yes, mineral water is very safe to drink. I used to buy mineral water if I am going somewhere else where faucet is not available. Have a nice day and God speed!

We just drink it directly from the faucet. We don't boil the water unless there is a post about something wrong with the water.
