What is your favorite way of traveling a long distance?

I love to fly! - Delta airlines

It's been quite awhile since I've travelled anywhere but I do love to fly. The longest trip I've ever taken was from Boston to CA and although it seemed to take forever I enjoyed it. I think what I like the best is taking off. Maybe it's the "rush" that I feel at the time I don't know. I enjoy looking out the window and watching the clouds and at night I think seeing the lights of the cities below is such an awesome site to see. I've flown in some bad weather and that didn't even bother me. The worst part of flying for me is having to change over. I don't mind if I have time to get from one airline to the next but I hate when I'm pressed for time. There was only one time when my luggage got lost and that really pisssed me off but they were great at getting it back to me and I was home anyway so there was no problem. From the stories I've heard I'm lucky. When I lived in CA I would take Amtrak from San Diego to LA and some day I would love to take a longer trip that way but it seems to be a more expensive way to travel than flying and takes more time. If you were taking a long trip what would be your chosen way to travel? Do you travel often or rarely like me? What are the different ways you have travelled?

I have traveled by plane, bus, and car. Someday I would like to try a train. I used to love to fly; but, all the delays and security BS have taken all the fun out of flying. It is just such a hassle now. I only fly now if I absolutely have to be somewhere faster than I can drive. Personally, I would rather drive and take the time to see the country. But, I don't always have the time to do that. Most of my travelling is within a 4 hour drive; but, I do occasionally have to go by plane for a business trip.

I am sure there is security; but, I would think it would be less than what is required for a plane, simply because, a train HAS to stay on the tracks while a plane can fly anywhere.

I'm sure you're right. I think there were a few scares on trains a while back but that soon ended.

I agree with you about all the security delays and BS when flying. It's become ridiculous but has to be done. One of these days I'm going to take that train trip myself. I wonder how security is there?

Until my first flight 2 years ago, I was convinced that the plane would crash if I flew. But I survived and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, I flew from the east coast to the west coast. It was a non-stop flight and it took about 6 hours.Befroe that, the longest thrip I had taken was a train trip from D.C to New Orleans.it took about 16 hours? I have forgotten. Anyway, it was the best trip. I love the train. You get to see the country and you can feel the vibration of the train. In the air , I couldn't feel anything unless there was turbulence. And I like the turbulence. Before the New Orleans trip, the longest trip i had taken was a bus trip from D.C. to Montreal. Now that took about 12 hours. It was fun because it was the orchestra and members of the band on the bus.And it was highschool. But if I had to go to Montreal today, I would take the train. And I would like to go to Chicago by train, but if I need to take a trip across country, I would fly.

That is too long on a bus. The only way I would even think about doing that trip is if I had a music star's type of bus . You know, my own bed, built in kitchen and satellite t.v.

We are leaving this week on our first real vacation in over 10 years. I like to fly, sometimes I drive if the trip is short enough or there is enough of us that it is cheaper. I have only taken a train trip once...I did not really enjoy it. Plus it was expensive.

Most probably be flying. I have travelled from New Zealand to Samoa, to Hawaii, to LA, to Washington DC. I have even taken a recent family vacation to Florida which was spectacular. I have taken the Amtrak train from Washington DC to Connecticut New Haven, which was lovely and very enjoyable. I have taken a small boat/ferry from Apia, Samoa to Savaii, Samoa (1 hour) and that was sickening. I get seasick and still did even after taken a seasick pill LOL. I have travelled by car from one end of the North Island in New Zealand to the top with family and friends, for concerts and visits to my grandmothers. I enjoy travelling by plane the most, especially if the airlines is a good one, with great service and things to do other than sleep LOL I love travelling, and hope when my hubby travels for work next year, that we get to go with him on at least one trip somewhere we haven't been before.

I have driven across the country from Virginia to California 7 times over the last 20 years and I love the countryside across the states. My favorite way is flying though because I get to where I am going quickly and get to enjoy more time doing whatever it is I want. I have travelled to Europe, Korea & Japan and of course flting is the only way to go.

Yes, the best part of flying is getting there fast. If we only have a short time to be where we are going it's such a waste to spend most of it getting there.

Its been awhile since I have travelled a long distance. The flight from UK to Australia and vica versa is a long tedious flight, but is still enjoyable. If I had a choice and the money and of course the time, I would definately love to travel by boat on a long voyage somewhere. I did catch a boat from Singapore to western Australia once over, it took 8 days, that would of been Ok, but me and my friend both got first degree burns from sunbathing the first day out of port.

I used to love to travel, ctry, but health problems have seriously curtailed my ability to do so. I always loved traveling by train. I think it's a great experience. I have never flown before, although I do know that many people enjoy it. I would just be so frightened to be all the way up there without a safety net. I do believe that if trains were plentiful like they used to be long ago I would still be doing a lot of traveling.

When I was very young my parents did a lot of traveling from Boston to Oklahoma and always took the trains. My mother has so many fun stories about our trips.

i prefer traveling by car,but of course, not me to be the driver.i don't like driving a car.but i think is more comfortable as you can stop whenever you want.you can make your own program and decide your priorities.you can go when you want and return when you want.

My favorite way of travelling is via airplane. Its kinda scary though, according to my office mate, he read somewhere that the safest method of traveling is via airplane, compared to using a car or via travelling by sea. Also I like the feeling of seeing the clouds closely. It makes me feel that I am flying lol.

Hello! I love traveling. I love traveling by car and by plane. I don't like traveling by boat that much. I love traveling by car especially with my family as it is fun. You get to stop over in some stores along the road, stop and eat, or take some picture and you're close to nature. The longest trip i've travelled by car was going to my grandparent's farm which is 6-8hrs depending on how fast you drive. Traveling by plane is relaxing for me especially when you travel with a business class tickets...you'll get all the care and service you need! *hehe* and can abuse if you want to. I love watching the clouds and be amazed by it. So far, the longest flight I had experienced was going here in Bahrain from Philippines which is at least 9hrs if direct flight, if connecting at least 11hrs. It's a pain in the neck sometimes but most of the time relaxing. I don't like traveling by boat so much because my first and last one was a bad experience to me. I was seasick..was sick big time. But I would love to do it again, maybe a Caribbean tour.. *hehe* Happy traveling! *smile* ciao! c",)

helicopter - i liekt o fly, helicopter in museum
i use to travel really often since we are living in Germany and I like to travel often home so I was flying like every weekend.I really enjoy it since the fly wasn't so long, but also sometimes annoy me all those waitings on the airport. But it is really worth is the most of the time.the last time wen I was flying was 3 month ago and it was from Europe to USA.It was pretty long fly and I was little bit scared of it, but it want good and I slept most of the time.I don't like much travel by car, since it is just losing time for me and my back always started hurt so bad , I can't stand it.

Hi ctry, My favorite mode of transportation for long distances is an airline. If I am traveling alone, I will fly every time. If I need to take someone that prefers not to fly, then we will drive. But my hang-up is driving 2500 miles in 3 days. That is a long time to be behind the wheel. I usually travel to Louisiana from the North West Coast once or twice a year. Some times I am in Louisiana three or four times in a year. My parents are still living in Louisiana. All my relatives still live there as well. Happy posting..

i love to travel by the sea. since im into research, i often travel. I travel a lot by land but im more at home in travelling by sea. i love to see different island, dolphins, school of fish and more interesting views. Also, the view of sunrise and sunset is best at sea. Travelling by air is also challenging but i dont have it often because its more expensive.

The longest flights I have done were London to Los Angles 12 hours, London to Hong Kong 14 hours and Singapore to London 14 hours. I have flown from the UK to Australia and New Zealand but I always take a few stopovers on such long journeys. I like taking off and seeing the landscape below until the plane usually moves up into the white puffy clouds. I saw an amazing view of the pyramids when I came into land at Cairo on the way home from Kenya. I went on a small plane in the Maldives and saw all the little islands and coral reefs below. Wow! I wear ear planes, plastic screw like thing that stop my ears hurting on landing. I love to travel by train most of all and sit in a comfortable seat seeing great scenery by day. At night time I like to sleep in a bunk in a compartment. The motion of the train rocks me off to sleep. I really love to travel and do this quite often. I have traveled by plane, train, bus, boat and by rickshaw.

I had never a long vocation .So i coundn't make a long distance trip.In my short holiday,i usually drive to the countryside to enjoy the nature with my friends. If i can have a long vocation and the money is enough in future ,i think first i will drive with my future wife all around my nation.where i cann't drive,we will ride the bicycle.we will enjoy the sights along the way.then ,we will go to foreign nations by air to enjoy the sights in foreign countries. It 's so good.we will feel very happy.

I think that a train is nice, it's better then a coach because you can see a lot more in a train.
