Protecting Garlic From Gophers?

I planted about 30 garlic bulbs last season and gophers (at least I think that's what they were, maybe moles?) eventually ate every single one of them! Anyone have any suggestions for keeping gophers away from my garlic this season?

I didn't know anything ate garlic. This was very informative. I like the response above if you can do it in such a way the garlic can grow a lot. Take care

I was quite surprised too. As soon as the garlic started to get it's bulbs... they would first start to be pulled into the ground and then eventually disappear completely. I even caught a few gophers in there munching on them.
