My husband is a big time Eagles fan so I watch almost every game they play. I couldn't believe how BAD they did against the Giants. Any ideas what's going on with them?

The eagles 2 wins four losses, how upsetting is that. How does a team go from being so good one season to be this way the next season. First you have mcnabb, who has never been a very accurate quarterback to begin with. But he has always had the talent on the team to pull his passes through for him. But with some trades before the season and some recent injuries, the guys who use to make McNabb look good are no longer there to pull him out. Wonder is management is shaking there heads now about getting rid of Jeff Garcia. Theres also the whole Andy Reid controversy. How effective of a coach could he possibly be right now with all the legal issues his sons are going through. He needed to step back I think and take care of his problems at home. His problems at home are now becoming problems on the field. He does not have the ability to coach a winning football team with all his family drama.

Well, my hubby says that the Eagles have been good (I don't necessarily agree) for several years now and it looks like they're due a bad season. I think McNabb has been an accurate QB with the exception of this season but he's definitely slipping now. As far as interference with Reid's coaching, I'm not at all sure that his coaching skills have suffered in the face of adversity. Sometimes it's more than just the coach or the QB....sometimes it's the team effort that makes or breaks a team.

That was the worst Eagles game I have ever seen them play. They were awful in every area. The offensive line could not block, mainly due to a couple of injuries to their line. Injuries overall played a big role. The defensive coordinator for the Giants used to be on the Eagles and I think he knew at least some of the Eagles plays on offensive and defense. They will bounce back after the break I believe. They seem to always lose a game before the bye week and then come back with a victory.

Well, my husband certainly hopes so and I suppose I would like to see them contend for the simple fact that it makes for some great compeitition between the two of us. We usually poke at each other about penalties, etc...but that game was soooooo bad that I couldn't even bring myself to tease him after the first quarter.

There are a couple of things that aren't going the Eagles way. Injuries is a killer of most NFL teams; when your top running back is out because of injury, and your top tackle is also out and being replaced by a young player making his first career start, it can get pretty bad out there. There is something to be said about the team's execution as well. When you watched the game against the Lions last week, the Eagles were crisp and executed well. It was evident that execution and focus wasn't there. Although, again, it's tough when you are missing a weapon as potent as Brian Westbrook on the field. I also seem to think that Donovan McNabb puts a lot of pressure on himself and forces a lot of plays that either can't be made or are difficult to be made. He was sacked 12 times, and if you watched it the majority of those sacks were in the pocket. McNabb does not move around like he used to and it seems as though he cannot feel the rush coming sometimes. Defensively, they don't seem to be a aggressive as in year's past. Defensive coordinator Jim Johnson is known for bing aggressive, but it seems as though they are tentative at the point of attack. The defensive line is inconsistent in getting pressure into the quarterback and their linebackers definitely miss the leadership of Jeremiah Trotter out there. Their secondary is banged up and I have never been too fond of Sean Considine at safety to begin with. There is a lot that needs to be righted on that ship.

Yes, McNabb certainly had no time to move around in the pocket or pass it effectively. While I'm sure the injury plays a part of that, it was more like the line just wasn't covering for him. Is it possible they are sending him a message? We were hoping that the Eagles from the previous game with the Lions was going to show up but it didn't happen.
