the people of the philippines are pursuing online petition for a public apology to the producer, writers, and teri hatcher of desperate housewives. "can i check those diplomas again? because i just like to make sure that they are not from some med school in the philippines." teri hatchers exact words in the series. do you think they should apologize for it?

It was meant to be funny. If anyone is taking this seriously, you have way too much time on your hands! Get over it.

well its not funny when youre a doctor and living in the U.S because they are curing people who thinks they are some cheap doctor in the philippines. its not a good thing to degrade people like that. they already apologize anyway so i think they knew they were wrong.

I don't know why people are mad at Teri Hatcher, she's just an actress, she is FORCED to say what the writers tell her to. Could she argue the script? Yes, I suppose, but at the risk of a contractual breach and ensuing lawsuit. Just because she said it doesn't mean she agrees with it. If you have an issue, the writers and producers should be the only people dealing with it. On that note, yeah, it was an insensitive comment, and ABC has already apologized. Whether they edit it out for future airings and DVDs, we shall see.

i agree with you on the part of teri hatcher. but in some cases, they are to change the script if the actor/actress would rise to the opportunity about the issue. like they say, "watch what you say infront of people" because they might hurt someone.

I don't think they should have to apologize. it wasnt meant to hurt anyone. It was just to be funny in the fact that she was uncomfortable with her neighbor as her doctor, and at the fact that he told her she was going through "the change". Nothing mean was meant by it.

Wow. I guess it just all comes from a stereotype. I mean it's not only one or two cases we are talking about. There are so many movies and dramas that use a racist comment. Producers probably use it without realising it becuase for them it's just another stereotype and until someone points out and complain they probably won't notice. It's just the society we've got right now that acts racist without realising becuase they've grown up watching medias that dontains this kind of things.
