i just cannot believe how americans continuously say that they are educated people but they allow shows like desperate housewives to contain lines that disrespect other countries especially our doctors, that might just be a show and the characters are fictional but they should know better, my father is a doctor and has always been sincere and dedicated to his work i would not accept some foolish celebrity to just do this to my fellow countrymen, teri hatcher should be ashamed of not even thinking twice about contradicting the script, this is not even a joke.

For someone like Teri Hatcher to even mention those lines means she feels the same way that Filipino doctors or just simply Filipinos are beneath her stature. Too bad, I thought the girl was intelligent. Insinuations such as those does tell you what level of intelligence she is in. Need I say more? United States keeps getting people from the Philippines to work in their country and yet what do they do, treat us like common thieves, disrespects us, downsize our intelligence and capabilities and yet the buggers wants to go to the Philippines so on and so forth. Whether this show or Teri Hatcher defends their action or apologize for that particular episodes I think the show has showed tremendous amount of disrespect to its viewers not only to Filipinos but to other non-American nation. Next time they may say a deragoratory remark to an Indonesian, Chinese, Japanese, Malaysian etc. It all boils down to the fact if you are not American, they are not obligated to show respect to other nations. SHAME ON THESE PEOPLE AND SHAME ON YOU TERI HATCHER!!!!

While I most heartfully agree with all of your statements, and has been nurturing hate against hatcher, I think we should also be aware that we are waaay taking this too much. It was just a passing comment in the show, and it was just supposed to reflect a view of ONE of the characters (who I always thought is one of the dumbest women in the show). I doubt if viewers in America even noticed it. There was once an instance in the Amazing Race where the characters didn't even know of the Philippines. And for two countries who shared a lot of history together, now THAT's insulting. The thing is, discrimination is very common in America. For a supposedly liberal country, they have very narrow view of the class, race, culture and gender. I'm studying sociology of education now, and you won't believe the amount of literature I found detailing racial and gender discrimination in the US. This is also very common in their popular culture. Watch a movie and see the characters they kill. But yeah, I do think that we deserve a PUBLIC apology. Hatcher should have been more sensitive of the contemporary issues. He should have known the state of the medical profession in the Philippines, and its association with US policies. This slip goes to show a program that is not well-researched and thought-out. While discriminatory remarks like this is very common in their pop media, this is not an excuse to adapt the same stance, particularly when Filipino doctors are undergoing strains from all the personal, economic and socio-political issues that they get to face lately. A lot of them were forced to swallow their pride when they migrated to the US, it was insensitive of hatcher to wipe his foot on people who are already down.

I'm a nurse and I got insulted the moment that I watched this. Didn't they know that nurses are in demand in their country. Don't Americans know that doctors and nurses are very sincere to their patients compared to other nationality? We are very kind and caring to our patients. Filipinos are very dedicated to their work and as a meidcal practitioner, I am offended with what Teri Hatcher on the show. Even if that's just a show, they should still consider what will the Filipino people feel.

There are some irresponsible people in showbiz really and it's hard to avoid this. Besides she might have somehow observed something which resulted to such statement. The best thing to do is for all those concerned to really do what they are supposed to do to avoid any unfavorable comment from anybody.

They are so stupid to insult us Filipino especially our doctors. As far as i know our doctors and nurses are in demand in their country so how dare they insult our doctors like that. Come to think of it, if they are really educated people they should know how to respect others. Don't they even know the feeling of being insulted by someone. They feel that they are educated than us but the truth is they're not. They didn't even think twice or even delete/edit it before showing that episode/scene. Or they should edit the script before they take/record the scene. As for Teri Hatcher, she should be ashamed of what she did...
