Spiders and Artex

Does anyone know whether artex on a ceiling makes it easier for the spiders? We have artex, a sort of rough, patterned plaster on our ceilings and the spiders seem to be able to make webs right across the ceiling, which I am not at all keen on. I don't remember this happening when we had emulsioned ceilings. Does artex encourage the critters to make webs?

I don't mind them if they are in their little corners but I do detest it if they come down to join me when I am in bed, particularly if it is dark and I can feel them! Horrible. So I just wondered if the critters found the artex gave them a better foot hold.

Thanks Ray! I may be liked but I don't like them dropping down on me when I am trying to get to sleep - they tickle! They are actually pretty useless spiders too. We had an infestation of flying ants last year and they only caught about three of the pesky things!
