To all that wanted an apology, you got it! http://tv.msn.com/tv/article.aspx?news=278256>1=7702 Im so happy to hear this. I was really getting annoyed at all the accusations and comments about Teri Hatcher. She was just an actress, doing her job by reading the script that she was given. People were calling her all sorts of stereotypical names and saying she owed the Filippino people an apology. Will all of you apologise for the stereotypical remarks made about her? I know I have friends from the Philippines on my friends list and I feel I have built a good relationship with not because of where they are from but from who they are. Im not being racists, I just didnt see anything wrong with it. I didnt think anything about it, until I read a thread on her about it. Then more and more threads poppped up all pointing the finger at Teri Hatcher, that is really what upset me, she didnt script the show, and she may not have had the right to refuse the line, she is under a contract. We dont know what she was up against. No one got upset with the FCC, the ones who actually monitor what goes on tv and what dont. I really think it was meant in a harmless way. Im sorry this made anyone feel like they were being discriminated against or made to feel like a lesser being in the world. Did the apology make anyone feel any better? Im thinking it didnt, and there will still be grudges against this. So what good was the petition and the apology? Bay xx

I actually had the same reaction you did. When I was watching the show it didn't come off as discriminating to me. Maybe it's because I just wasn't thinking about it in that way, but I don't think anyone was trying to be racist. And I def. don't think Teri Hatcher should be the one everyone is mad at. Like you said, she's an actress. She was just doing her job.

Thanks Lily, Yes I love Teri, and I think her actual character is much like the one she plays, and how can you not love Susan Myers?!?!?! lol C'm on! I hope it makes some feel better, even though Im sure it wont be enough, not when it comes to racial remarks and the ones who feel it was against them. ABC stepped up and admitted it might not have been so funny to all, and are making changes to the script and to be more considerate on future scripts. They owned up, and thats a big thing to do. Yeah, it is a big thing to do, especially since a lot of people didn't see it as an inapprorpiate remark. Although I guess I could see why some people would get offended. I love Susan Myers! She is a great, funny character. That whole scene was just trying to show her personality some more. It wasn't trying to make this huge controversial thing.

I agree with you. Im sure she was not thinking it would cause any controversary, just as the producers, writers, the FCC or any other org affiliated with the show.

Your right Gaby, we do need to be more careful with our choice of words. But Id bet my life on it, if a Filippino actor had said something about the States, they would have found it funny! Its how this world is, not my way of it thats for sure. I just think it was taken a little too far out of context by people. So what if they had said, for instance, UK?? I mean would you really have gotten so upset that you threatened a boycott or signed a petition?? Demanded a public apology by ABC and the actress? Bay xx

Well, Racism and Discrimination are really big issues. Even in sites they are written there " Equal Opportunity". What will you feel if something like this was said about your Race?? Some people are just sensitive than others but it is not right to make example of Filipino doctors in National television look degrading and incapable of their work. We know for a fact that many people watch DH, it's really not funny even though some people think it is.

And "devalues" the Filipino doctors is really the right word..... Just think of how many Filipinos working in the medical industry in the U.S... if all of them are incapable of their work... how come they have lasted there in another country???

Exactly on your second Comment Sutan, if the US didnt value Drs from anywhere, not just the Philippines, why are there so many here working with prestigeous hospitals and medical centers???? If the Filippino people themselves didnt feel a bit ashamed or not good enough....better yet as you put it "devalued", then why did this hurt the feelings of so many? If someone said your stupid to me, then its not going to bothere me unless I REALLY think there is some truth to me being stupid. Otherwise, Im going on my merry little way and not letting the opinion bother me. Im sure if I had access to the Philippines tv shows, there would be some sort of "devaluing" going on about the States. I know what many countries think of the US, we are full of ourselves, and we think our country is better than any other country, we're snobs! So what, Im not going to boycott and sign petitions for public apologies. SO this leaves me to ask you Sutan, do you feel better now that you got the public apology that so many demanded ABC give? I bet you dont, I bet you still feel like sh!t about it, so what good did the apology do? Bay xx

I can be slow at times, but I have given this more thought, and I think this remark originated from the Philippines being a 3rd world country. Which is considered over populated and economically poor, there for creating the remark. Not so much that the Drs from there are incompetant. Regardless, the apolog was given, and the finger pointing needs to stop. Really all Im saying. Bay xx

in context of the show...it was fine. any one regularly watching the show, knowing the characters, would not have any problem with it. one would not accuse an actor playing Hitler in story of bad things....we realize that is the person playing a role. I don't understand all of this political correctness and immediately jumping on people all of the time.

OMG it is not like people take DH word as law. Are people going to say, ohhh DH said that the philippines have bad schools we should make sure our doctor was not trained there! If they do then they are stupid. Is DH the leading knowledge on medical training? What are people getting so upset about? It was a show! It isn't like that character is super smart and realizes that they just might have good schools in the philippians lol. She could of easily have said "make sure it isn't from an online school." Would all online schools get offended? People make fun of online degrees all the time even though there are really legit online schools out there. Why? Because there are really bad online schools out there too! And getting mad at the actress is also just plain dumb. Get some tougher skin people! South Park makes fun of every one all the time and I don't think they have ever had to apologize. What a big deal out of nothing. P.S. It is late and I am rambling because I can barely get my thoughts together lol, but you get my point.

Yeah they still show episodes of Sansford and Son and All in the Family, believe it or not, lol that make all kinds of racial slurs, and its on a family programming channel called TV Land! I really didn think too much about it and I got pretty offended by the names they were calling Teri Hatcher. A hollywood bimbo....wtf? Im sure they have little comments to say about America, just as many from other countries do, but no apology needed. lol Its more and likely the truth stretched to make it humorous. I felt there must have been some sort of truth felt by people, or else they wouldnt get so upset about it. You know what I mean? LOL Its ok, ramblin on all you'd like, a lot of people do! Bay xx
