I am bipolar myself. I think the key was going to the doctor, getting his opinions, and researching everything myself. Then I felt like I was more able to make an informed deicision. Counseling is frowned in some cultures, and seen as a weakness (generally not in America), but it works, and if it would help you, I would try it. We cannot do everything on our own. I had to find that out. : )

well, the doctors ? i think what they could do is also let me be outgoing ,think the better ,like the books about mental illness tell us.now ,i know it is common that poeple suffer from mental illness, just light or hard. i learn to treat the mental illness as the the usual illness like catching a cold, get hurted .it is common ,it is not serious . thank you very much. i agree with you that we cann't do everything on our own ,if i feel worse ,i wil try to see the doctor.thank you .

I've known a lot of people who suffered from mental illness. There's a lot of it in my family even. I think getting help is important, because I can tell immediately when certain members of my family have stopped taking their prescribed medicines... they are like whole different people, and not in a good way.
I have post-traumatic stress disorder myself. I sometimes go to counseling, and other times I manage the disease myself. None of my therapists have ever given me medication, but they have suggested some very useful techniques that have helped me. I am glad I chose to get help, because being more stable myself has allowed me to be a better wife, a better parent, a better friend... and a better person.
