i was doing my laundry this afternoon. but before that i turned on the computer in the bedroom and played the hi-5 show for my daughter to watch while i do the washing of clothes. minutes after my daughter came to me and helped me with the laundry. although she is only three years old she helped me a lot by handing me the soap, the fabric conditioner and by giving me a glass of water.

Now that touched my heart a bit. You must feel very proud of your daughter. I think she'll turn out to be a compassionate person, especially to you and the family.

My experience is that children want to feel useful. If you let them help in their own way and don't correct them because they don't do it your way then they can become very helpful. My son has been helping me with cooking since he was big enough to sit. Sometimes the mess was bigger then the help, but today (he is 8 now) he can even cook on his own (with some help at the stove/oven). As there is only us two living on our own it helps me a lot that he can and will help with some of the things that needs to be done. That's more time for us to spend time together! :) I'm happy your daughter want to help you wild_flow_r. To sara03- So good to hear that nothing happened to your daughter. That could have ended very sad.

to what i've observed, daughters tend to help out with the household chores at a very young age. when i was very young, i started watching my mom cooking, doing laundry and stuff like that. somehow, my mom allowed me to participate in her cooking sessions, marketing and other household chores. As for sons, they rather play with toys and watch cartoons. And that could be one of the reason why they grow up to be ignorant towards household chores.
