Have you ever broken a bone before? I'm 26 and so far I've never broken anything. The worst I've had (knock on wood) is a sprained neck. Have you broken anything? How did you do it?

I've had one broken bone so far. I was almost 41 when I broke a bone in my foot. I was running across the living room and I ran into the foot of my husband's armchair. The foot of the chair is a very heavy wood, and it, of course, had absolutely NO give to it. I let it go until the next morning, thinking it was just a sprain, but I woke up to discover that over half of my foot was deeply bruised....very dark black, purple and blue. I had an elastic bandage, a surgical boot, and crutches, for most of the fall that year. It was absolutely NO fun at all!!!

Hi and welcome to Mylot.. When I read this I felt my body cringing...for you and your experience with broken bones...and how it brought back memories of mine. Both times that I broke something...my toe and and ankle I was out in nature. When I broke my ankle my hubby and I were gathering large rocks for our garden along a river bank about 20 miles from home. I had found a large limestone boulder and was trying to carry it over the rocky terrain and my ankle got caught between two boulders and the weight of the one I was carrying threw me off and my ankle just snapped. My hubby had to carry me a fair distance back to the car...and I was in a cast for 6 weeks. As you said...not a fun experience. The second time my hubby and I were hiking among some sand dunes and I took my shoes off because the sand was warm. There were some roots sticking out that I didn't see and my toes caught in them and one of them broke. They couldn't do anything about that one and didn't cast it. I just had to make the most of it and it did heal on its own. So those are my 'ouch' stories and appreciate hearing yours. These experiences provide real incentive to pay attention...be present and walk safely! Cheers.. Raia

Ouch that sounds painful. I know how bad it feels kicking a chair leg with my little toe, I couldn't imagine if it actually broke when I did it.

I'm 32 and I have never had a broken bone in my body (knock on wood). My husband on the other hand has had a few (a broken leg and a broken collar bone just to name a couple). The worst things I've had were back spasms and neck pain (I couldn't turn my neck too far in either direction).

I also have to knock on wood, because I've never btoke anything. I've hurt myself, but never to have to even go see a doctor. I hope it will continue like that :P

Only one time and I care to never do it again, it was winter and I was going out to the road to get the mail, the porch has three steps which i thought were cleared pretty good, well I sliped on the step and broke my ankle in three places , no one was home so i had to crawl back in to the house and call my hubby who was close to being home.Had to have surgery both sides had broken bones and the back was shattered, so I am pined, screwed and plated back together and I never want to go thru that again, I thought I would never walk again well i can walk but it didnt heal quite right and I can no longer work bcause of swelling if down to long or the dr said if I turn ever and dont take the foot with me there is little hope of getting it back together again, changed my life style in the way and what I can do but hey its all ok in the end.

Nope, I've never broken a bone ..yet. I'm 41 and so far haven't ever broken anything. The only thing I did do, is I sprained a couple toes when I was around 20..I got drunk and fell off a curb and sprained a couple toes on my right foot. That wasn't fun..it hurt. lol

I've had two incidents about a year apart when I suffered broken bones. Back in 2004, I accidentally tripped while going down a step. I stuck out my arm to break the fall and landed on my elbow. At first I thought I was okay, but a few hours later it really began hurting. I found out one of my lower arm bones (I think the radius) suffered a small fracture, and I needed to wear a sling for a month or so. The second time happened on April 1, 2005. I was driving home from work when the sun glare in my windshield kept me from seeing the traffic ahead. I looked back to see if it was safe to pull over, but a half-second after I looked forward again, I struck a van. I completely broke my right kneecap and fractured an ankle and wrist. My kneecap was held together with wires for a few months until it healed.

I was thinking that I've never broken anything, just fractured until I remembered the car wreck when I was 18. Someone hit our car broadside and I was thrown from the car. I ended up with a broken pelvis and nose. My fracture came from falling in the yard. There was a place with uneven ground and I fell and hit my elbow on the culvert of the driveway. That was very painful! I hope I'm spared any more broken bones :) By the way, a sprained neck sounds very painful. How did you do that??

Hey ravinskye I can honestly say that in the past 27 years I have never broken any bones. That is really funny in that as you know I played just about every sport available in high school and some in college also. I have been very lucky. In the past I had a concussion when I wrecked my bike when I was around 10 years old. I have had a few sprained ankles in basketball and soccer. Bruised legs and knees in softball. I can say that one of the worst experiences was when I dislocated my middle finger and tore the ligaments playing soccer goalie in college.
