I don't know about the laws in India, but in the US, you are not liable for stolen purchases with most CC companies. I think your CC company is a rip-off. I wouldn't pay them.

Oh no, it's backed by the largest bank in India-the State Bank of India. the problem lies with Visa and Mastercard, they put in conditions for which anyone in the USA will sue their butts off and laugh all the way to the bank after winning all the public interest litigations. The brown skins can be looted though in their own countries.

When I read this I was going to try and suggest talking to a lawyer, police, and ur credit card company. After I read that you live in India I do not what to say because I dont know any of the legal issues on this matter in that country. I would try and contact authorities regardless and talk to your credit card company to see what they have to say.

I have already filed a police complaint the moment I realized that the card was stolen and got the card blocked. No progres because the credit card company and probably good ole GE is dragging their heels in producing the transcations slips, now suddenly they are claiming a 60 time bar limit that is over. I informed them within 3 days and sent the disputed transcations from within eight, and they claim that I was late. My mistake was that I set them an email (after confirmation that email correspondence was okay), now they imply that I should have sent them a hard copy by courier of all the things, because couriers proof of delivery is generally not accepted by most Courts. Even if I approach the courts-this will be long, lengthy and time consuming affair, I think I still gotta pay up, maybe the money will be kept in abayence till the courts decision. The Indian courts are bogged down with too many cases and this will be treated as too small an amount to really merit a judge's attention too soon.

This happened to me last year..I had a nice nest egg for my 4yr old for if he decided to go to college,,well...I used my card online for 2 or 3 sites that were so i thought secure..anywho..I had my number stolen and within ONE DAY..they took out $65,000 ohhh yess $65,000.. when i found i had no money i went to the bank..and reported it to the police and withink 6 mths of bull crap..i just got identity theft..NO ONE WOULD HELP ME..I was soo mad it should be a freakin law that if a limit of something should have to be checked with the card holder...so now I owe my bank money..even though i think they should pay there own $400..which is the neg balence after all that..and now I canthave a bank account cause i wont pay what i dont and shouldnt owe!!! So i feel you hunny..i really do..i dont think electronic transfer of any money is a good thing any more,,,so im sorry to hear about your bad luck too and i hope things get better,,,take care!!!

The thing is that the card didin't get blocked inspite of 82 cash withdrawal attempts. The Credit card company says that only debit cards get blocked after 3 or4 wrong ATM pin attempts. If it had got blocked at that time, the person would not have been able to make purchases at all and I would no be poorer by 13000 plus bucks.

Hey bud I am happy to live in India, I'd rather live here than anywhere else in the world. Do you feel sorry that you live in canada or wherever? I don't think so, so don't run down a perfectly good country, which is far freer than the west. I am a journalist and I should know the kind of restrcitions that are there in the west, as compared to India. With regards to credit cards - I am talking of companies that tied up with VISA and Mastercard that are doing this, and GE manages the merchants-guess who's refused to co-operate? goog ole GE.

Did you report it when it was stolen? If so they could have cancelled it and then there wouldnt be a problem. If you dont report it they are not as helpful.
