The cost of diapers

I now have three kids in diapers. One is in the newborn size, the next wears a size 4 and my 2 year old wears pullups. The cost of this is over $100 when I buy big packs. That's pretty ridiculous for something they just potty in, and plus how expensive can they really be to make?! The other day I saw a woman with a boy that was probably 8 that had a torn up shirt on and an infant. She was asking for donations of diapers. This made me really sad. :( I wish there was a way to help people that cant afford it. I know there is WIC and stuff but that just helps with food. I felt terrible she had to ask for donations of diapers.

Personally I think we need to do away with disposable diapers and go back to the cloth diapers. They worked for years! We have just gotten so used to the convience that we don't want to do the extra work involved for cloth diapers! Studies have been done and although there are resources used in washing/laundering the cloth diapers, it is still cheaper and better for the environment.

That's correct, the cost of diapers is extremely hgh and to thiks they are going to rubbish bin after one use is really frustrating! I think best way is to train slowly (as early as possible) the babies to pass urine and motion in the toilet. This is especially easy for stay-home moms and those who have maids for help. If not, use cotton cloth diapers which can be reused after wash. This is environmental-friendly too! I started training my 3 year old to to use the toilet and wear cotton shorts at the age of 1.5 years, which he took up easily.

i don't have a baby yet... but i know how expensive the cost of diapers is... i agree that it is ridiculous... unfortunately, we can't really do anything about it... i feel for those people as well... i wish the government can do something about it... when i was born, back then there is no diapers in my home country yet... so my mum has to use a cloth and wash them by hands since we don't have a washing machine as well at that time... it is very hard for her...

This is why I use cloth diapers. I bought a couple at a time until I had enough for 3 days in between washing although I usually wash every other day anyhow. I don't have to throw away my diapers and keep buying more, I wash and reuse. It helps the enviornment and is more gentle on my son's skin. Why not look into that?

Reading this I feel really horrible for that woman who was asking for donations for diapers. That is really awful to be in that position. Three kids with diapers is awfully expensive as well, but have no fear, it will pass soon enough and you won't have to buy diapers....thank goodness for potty training or us adults would be in trouble too hahaha!

my son is 19 months old,and when he was a little baby,he need 3-4 diapers.that cost one dollar.and in that day, i have no work,so it is expensive for my family.so my wife have to use many old cotton cloth as diapers.and i must steam those cotton diapers everyday.i think, that is not a problem in developing country, that is common, and that way can't hurt baby.the only prolbem is that parents need do many things. mybe, have not diapers is a terrible in your eyes, but i don't think so. good luck to your children.

wow, that is a lot of diapers. My oldest is three, and we buy pullups for him at night, but we'll prob. start putting him in underwear soon, as he hasn't been wet overnight in a long time. We only have to buy one pack of those a month since he only wears them at night.. and I dread doing that! (: We also have a 12 month old, and I think I spend enough money on his diapers.. We'll be waiting till the youngest is three before we have another one.. so hopefully we won't be doing two in diapers at the same time. It sure does get expensive. Almost makes you want to go to cloth (except, then you have to clean those!) (: Good luck
