What Do You Really Use Your Garage For?

We have a three-car garage but we only have room for one car. My son has created a sort of rec-room in one of the spaces. It's a nice gathering spot for the neighbor kids. Then the perimeter has become a sort of library--book shelves and everything. There's a fridge to the right with another stand alone freezer next to it, and then of course, there's boxes of stuff. Stuff I forgot to label. We have room for one car. How's your garage space?

The garage space is used to store boxes and junk.

Well said. :)

Originally I planned to actually put my car in the garage but it was full of boxes and bags after my house move. Then my partner moved in and the garage was full to the doors with his stuff as well. Finally we managed to clear out all the junk and use the garage for storage of our outdoor gear and camping stuff. Now the garage has been turned into a studio, my partner keeps all his recording equipment and computer down there, together with guitars, speakers and amps.

Mmmm, sounds like my Ex who shall remain nameless (for his privacy of course). The kids kind of inherited his guitars since he never came by to pick those of the garage floor. Ah, yes, what are garages for again?

We have a one-car detached garage. Even if it were completely empty it still would be too small to fit anything but a super-tiny car, like a two-seater. A motorcycle would fit just fine too. I am always wondering why you would make a garage that a car cannot fit in. Since we can't put either of our cars in there we have to park them in the space next to it and we keep things like the lawn mower, weed whacker, tools, paint, rake, broom, summer furniture and stuff like that out there. And a few miscellaneous things go out there too. Since it is a small space, you can barely move with the stuff we have in there. Once I actually get around to getting the house organized a little better I will move on to the garage and make that space nicer.

A tiny garage. Yeah, what were they thinking. And it always seems that cleaning up the garage is secondary to organizing the house. Maybe you could turn it into a nice breakfast nook or something. Heh! In any case, thanks for sharing and have a wonderful weekend.

We really do use our garage for our car and hubby's work shed. On the other hand it is tempting to make it part of the house as the neighbors just did. What a beautiful job they did. You would never know they had a two car garage before.

Yeah, I've always thought the garage should belong to the hubby. Hopefully they can keep it all tidy and clean. But I hear you, it's quite tempting to build an extra room there or something. My son loves his rec room space he's built for himself in there. And I'm actually quite content to have him in the garage instead of around the neighborhood streets. Okay, I think you're the first to use the garage for its intended purpose. Have a wonderful Monday.

We don't actually have a garage, just a walled-in garden that we park the car in. However, when I lived at home, our garage got converted into my brother's ultra-cool bedroom. I was so jealous!

Oh I love those English walled-in gardens. I love the wall too. Is it made from stones and all that? Did you ever inherit the ultra-cool room from your brother? Thanks NW for stopping by. Have an awesome evening.

Oh a Victorian home with a walled-in garden. Something you read about in books. I hope you upload pictures. Let me know if you do.
24 Oct 07
It's a brick wall, actually. Where I live, almost every building is Victorian-era and made from red brick. Both our front and back gardens are in a sad shape though. This spring they are both getting a serious overhaul!

We only have a single car garage but guess what, it's used to house my car. The builder installed several shelves around the car in the garage, above the car and off to the sides. Many of my crafts are on the shelves and some car washing supplies. My husband parks his car on the driveway and never complains. Our house was built in the mid-60's and our property line doesn't allow us to add on and make a double garage. The only other way to expand would be to cut out a good portion of our living and dining areas. That's really not an option.

That's too bad that you can't build on. Those laws don't make sense sometimes. I wouldn't cut into the living or dining areas either. At least hubby is okay with parking on the driveway. Thanks for the input. Have a lovely evening.

Is it a nicely paved driveway? And how does the car parked in the middle get out? Do they park behind or beside each other? Oh, never mind. I'm just rewriting comments here. Have a wonderful Friday, Lakota.

I do not have garage. That is why I sold my car, when I shifted to this house. Last week, my neighbour had to vacate his shop so he made the shop in his garage and parked the car in front of his house. Good idea is it not? No rent is to be paid.

My family uses the garage to park our cars. We actually have 3 at the moment. The other one is parked outside and the two inside. There's not enough space to store other things in the garage. It is used mainly for parking and the car's so called shelter as what my dad would always say.

Oh wow! I think you might be one of two people so far who actually use the garage for its intented purpose. Aw, shelter for the car. That's so sweet. Do you rotate cars? Or do the same two always get to be sheltered?

We have a double car garage, and thank the gods we don't own a car, because its jammed to the rafters with stuff that belongs to us and to friends. When my daughter went to move in with us, and store her furniture and other items in the garage, I discovered my son had let one of his friends store a houseful of furniture in it. We can get into the door and across the back wall without moving things out of the way. Other than that, there are 2 house fulls of furniture and power tools and bikes filling the place. I don't know what will happen if I ever decide to buy a car!

Oh, maybe you should have a yard sale. LOL. Or you could charge your son's friend for storing his stuff. Ah, that sounds good. Have a great weekend, Katy.

Hello,in the winter we put our vechicles in it since it is a 2 door garage. But in the summer i use it for my craft shop, lol.I have all my tools and wood cutting gear in there on my side to do some wood crafts like for the holidays eg:christmas lawn decorations and haloween and stuff for my gardens like antiqued benches.I made a fence this summer for the garden to go between the garage and the back patio area with a wooden arch that went in the middle for the entry and painted it white for my little old picket fence look, haha. Its my place in the summer at least my own side,i have to share though when the snow comes, hahahah.:)Have a nice day!

Oh you are so talented. I wish I was crafty. For many years I tried, but things just came out . . . well, not right. So now I just go to craf fairs to buy stuff from the talented folks. It is a gift. In any case, that is a good use of your garage.

Ah, but you are married to a Marine. Everything has its place, I believe. At least that's what my Grandpa used to say. He was in the KNIL. Let me see how my Dutch is -- Koningshe Nederlandse Indonesshe Leger. Mmmm. It's the Dutch Indonesian Military. In any case, thanks for stopping by.

That seems to be pretty much everyone's story. By the way, what does a person do with all those old computers. I think we have a few so old the schools didn't even want them for donations. Rebuilding is probably out of the question too. Oh well, we tried. Have a wonderful day, my friend.

We have a 2 car garage and NO room for anything. We moved here almost a year ago 18th of last November. And we put all the stuff we didnt put in the house in the garage. My dad uses the part by the door that goes into the house as his mini office with his desk and printer. We have 2 fridges neither used unless necessary (have one in the house as well) The rest is tons of boxes from the move not yet put away. My sis and me are moving so we are going through our boxes. Oh also my mom keeps her books out there so she can start selling soon again on ebay. And our 2 bikes are there too. At least we have room to walk...

I think its a common habbit among men to use a space in the garage to keep the tools and old things , archives , unused and useless things in the garage for no reason , just because there is space , but going back to GTARGIRL garage plan , we find that's really used a very good and rentable way and we can rate it as an ideal plan for investing our resources for the kids and knowledge.

Yes, I've heard about men and their need for space. LOL. Just kidding. I guess to them there is a reason to all their storing issues. And thanks . . . I think investing our resources for the kids is always important. That's why I don't complain when all the neighborhood kids gather for a little bit of desert in our garage. It's quite pleasant and fun. Thanks, my friend. Have a fantastic Friday.

My garage is a server farm. :) I have the wall behind the servers and the roof above them with fans going through the walls to move air around them. I'll find my camera and take a picture, its really quite cool. :)
