Researchers from the University of Warwick and University College London had pointed out an interesting fact about Sleep. According to this study .. The individuals who showed an increase in sleep duration to eight hours or more a night were more than twice as likely to die as those who had not changed their habit, though predominantly from non-cardiovascular diseases. Hmmmm.. ..I sleep on an average eight to nine hours a day.. but this habit is in me since my childhood..What to do.. the research findings has been released so late.. lol.. and therefore i cant change my sleeping habit.. lol.. And about you..friends.. how many hours do you sleep..

Well I have seen these reports too, but I wouldn't worry too much about them if I were you. To my mind -sleep is a very individual thing - some people really can survive and be healthy on 5 hours a night - but others need 8 or more. There is no right or wrong - we are all individuals with our own bodies and likes/dislikes, and if you are happy on the amount of sleep you have now, then don't change it. I'm another that needs at least 8 - any less and I develop physical symptoms (headaches, tearfulness, lack of concentration, inability to focus on my job etc), and left to my own devices with no job and no alarm clock, naturally sleep for 9-10 hours. Even as a child, my Father says I was the only child he ever knew who went to bed of my own choice before my parents tried to put me to bed, because even then I obviously needed lots of sleep!

Exactly like me. If I have to, I can go for one night on around 6 hours, and then the symptoms start!Today I have a very rare day off from work - and last night I actually slept for 11 hours without waking up once! Some may call it lazy - but I prefer to think my body would not do that unless it seriously NEEDED that amount of sleep, so I just carry on!!

Thank God.. you come in my Category.. and i can manage with six hours of sleep or less for one or two days.. but in those days, these symptoms as you described, especially headaches, anger, and strain in my eyes.. will start to haunt me.. and too get things back to normal.. i will start repeating the cycle of 8-10 hours of sleep.

I do not have enough sleep every day. I sleep late in the evening at twelve and get up early in the morning at about six, at most six thirty. How I want to sleep late in the morning, but I cannot as I have to get up early to work. I take a nap after lunch though to make up for the lack of sleeping hours.

Wow. I love sleeping. I need about 8 - 10 hours of sleep a day in order not to feel lethargic the next day. I think I should try not to sleep so much nowadays. However, I think it's going to be very difficult for me.

Hehe, really, I don't sleep that much long either, seems that it is not that bad to my health. I suppose, enough sleep but not too much still does good to the health. It's said that 8 hours a day is still recommended for the grown-up, and 9 hours might be OK or say necessary for a Children, and 7 or 6 hours might be OK for some elder person, what do you think? With kind regards, Andy

I don't get much sleep. I have 2 small children and I sleep very light. I wake up often during the night. I don't know about that study because when I don't get enough sleep I feel like crap all day long and then you have another study I read before that if you don't get enough sleep then you will gain weight so if your over weight you could die from that. I'm sure next year will be a whole different study that will show something else. We will die when we are supposed to die no study will change that.

I doubt there study is true. I say it is just a bunch of balony. If you don' t know what that means then it means it is a bunch of lies. You can't get too much sleep.

I sleep 8 hours every day,but I always feel that's not enough,Every morning,I also feel sleepless.I agree with writter,this is a bad habit since my childhood.I remember I sleep 12 hours /day when I was a child.This isn't my wrong,actually,a child's sleeptime was control by his/her mom/dad,So,mothers,don't let your children sleep too long.

Nine hours is my usual sleeping pattern. I've read this study and as one researcher pointed out, the authors didn't consider brain function. There's many brain disorders that cause fluctuations in sleep patterns. Forget the research! Our own individual clocks know what's too much and what's too little.

Yea.. our body is a Biological Clock.. it sticks to its own time frames, and deviations due to compulsions creates a disorder in it, and then the stress and strain probs.

I sleep approx. 6 hrs a day except holidays (saturday and sunday) on which my sleep may last 8-10 hrs. Be not astonishing abt this research since research is variable it vary from time to time. At first scientist said that there is no harm in smoking, now u r observing how doctors/scientist are stressing to quit smoking.

As every one, knows that these research analysis reports are mainly based on QUANTATIVE METHODS..based on the hypothesis. In depth analysis will make them time consuming and will be too much expensive..

I really dont have a timer in my bedroom, so i am not sure how many hours I sleep everyday. The only thing I know is that, everyday of the week has its own sleeping time according to me because i watch some programs on TV until midnight then I wake up at around 7.oo in the morning to prepare for work. And on weekends, it depends if i have a new movie, i can watch movie till morning then i sleep for some hours before going to church then an afternoon nap on sunday. So please people, does anyone have an extra sleep timer? please lend me one.........lol i dont want die earlier.
