The SCHIPS program is being used by the Democratics to start Socialized Medicine in this country. President Bush stated early on that he supported the SCHIPS Program and would increas funding (he suggested 5 Billion over 5 yearsfor starters) but what the Congress sent him was the start of socilized medicine. First it expands the program to cover children to age 26 and increase the income limit to $80,000 for a family of four. According to the US Census report a $75,000 and higher income is greater than 80% of all people in this country. This is the group that pays 80%+ of all taxes in this country or the very rich. This program would use the money to make sure all poor children have insurance. Under the democratic bill this would be expanded to include children up to the age of 26 and the parents as well. Many states use the money to fund existing programs and expand them beyound the orginal intent of the porgram. My final comment is where in the constitution does congress or the federal government have the authority to fund a National Health Insurance Program? I could see the states but I don't think it is spelled out in the constitution that congress can do this.

Rev, that's great it worked for you, but I've seen reports and have read personal stories from people that tell a different story. Your personal experience is fine, but others have different experiences with each healthcare system (and pretty much everything else). Just wanted to bring that up.

Congress is designed to make new laws and improve old ones, not follow the Constitution to the letter of the law. Without enactment of new laws by Congress, you'd never have the national transportation sytem of highways in this country, or Social Security, or rural electrification.

Often overlooked when talking about the powers of government is the 10th Amendment The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people. The founding fathers did think about the future and wanted to make sure that the states and the PEOPLE had the power. Read the BILL OF RIGHTS and you will notice that there are very few rights given to the government and many to the people. Over the years we have allowed the Government to take more and more control over our lives. The elected officals have gotten the impression that they are incharge and do not have to answer to the people.

We spend billions of dollars trying to keep socialist ideas, and the USSR out of our country, and now we want socialized medicine?

Alabama has a Childrens Health Care program. ALLKIDS, as well as Medicaid. My kids have been getting it every year since 2000. This year because I didn't have their birth certificates handy, I haven't, but will sign em up tommorrow. I have nothing against that, but what about the ones for the adults that have NONE at all? I have nothing against Hillary or President Bush on this, although I believe he just vetoed the program just the other day.
