Why do they call them disabilities why not short comings or flaws !!! Why disabilities???? Just because we have something that makes us different means we are unable to do things????

I have a son that has Cerebral Palsey. I don't dislike the word disabled or disabilities. This only means to me that they are unable to do certain things. As someone stated no one can do everything. We all have problems in some area of our lives whether it be physical, mental, social. we all have qurkes of some kind. The word I don't like is retarted. I think this word has a much stronger meaning to most people. My son is not retarted, but is learning disabled in some area's such as math, but very capabale in so many other areas. We need to learn to look beyond someone's problem and see the real person. My son is a wonderfull man, and loved by many.

I don't refer to disabled people as such, I refer to them as differently abled.

My son has "special needs" which sounds a bit nicer, he has autism and adhd and is as special as we are. Words can be cruel but people who love us don't care about the words others have attached. Disabled is such an awful word but no-one can do everything even superheros! Labelling someone only shows your own weaknesses as a "normal" person
