Spent the last weekend listening to this album, The Beatles "Revolver". It has been more than 40 years since this album was released. Well, i find this album more accessible and satisfying than the following, often said to be their best "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", which sounds dated when listened to now. The perfect 'western' pop album then. A little above "The White Album" (which had one of my favourite in 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps') in terms of a satisfying listen, i would say.
John Lennon's 'Here, There And Everywhere' never fails to evoke a sense of wonder. The melody and harmony is just beautiful. Then there's Paul McCartney's 'Eleanor Rigby' with its dramatic string section. A beautiful song about loneliness. Loneliness expressed not just in terms of feeling but a state of being; where no one seemed to care about anyone. And George Harrison's 'I Want To Tell You' has a discordant rhythm section which is so charming when listened to. Other standouts includes the happy 'Good Day Sunshine', 'And Your Bird Can Sing', the sad 'For No One' and the downright experimental 'Tomorrow Never Knows'. 'And Your Bird Can Sing' with its multitracked guitars is one of my favourite Beatles song. Even on more straight-forward tracks like 'Dr Roberts' is compensated by the clever use of words like the "well well well, you're feeling fine" section.
There is news that EMI (the Beatles parent record company) is remastering their entire catalogs for release late this year. I do not know if this is true as it is already late in the year now.
So, is there anyone, ahem, old enough who had listened to and liked this album. Or is there any young person who liked the music of The Beatles too. If so, what are the songs you liked in this album and why do you like them.

Old enough..well I big to differ..I love the beatles..yes Revolver was a great album. Being a Beatle fan from their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan show..I find I have favorites on all of their albums..which now sit happily on my iPod. When I listen to each song or album, it instantly becomes a favoorite.

Talking about Beatles I'm avid for 'YESTERDAY' song. Look to simple but not easy to perform in live band version because the mood and the feeling while singing need a verve reciprocations. Just like 'Soldier of Fortune' sang by Deep Purple. Slow but claims strong and deep vocal, expression as well.
