Pros of the Bumbo

As a mother of three, I have been through over ten years of baby products that have come and gone from the market. Most are fads, and few stick. But one item that I forsee sticking around a long time is the Bumbo.
I discovered this product when I was pregnant with my youngest daughter. I knew little about it: made in Europe somewhere and I think it won a bunch of awards. Well, the price tag was pretty steep for a little seat (around $40 where I live).
After mulling it over for some time, I bit the bullet and bought one.
This was probably the best $40 I have ever spent. My daughter could sit in it at 2 months old, as soon as she could hold her head steady. She LOVED being able to sit up and see everyone!
Being a chronic "spitter" with acid reflux, this Bumbo helped immediately and immensely!
And, I might point out, my daughter was able to tri-pod at 4 months of age (sit with her hand supporting herself on the floor). and at 5 months she is sitting up like a pro! This is way earlier than my older two children and I really believe it is due to the Bumbo!

I had the Prince Lionheart BeBe Pod for my daughter. it is very similar to the Bumbo. She was also sitting with her hands propped up at 4 months ans sitting independently at 5 months of age. She also learned to crawl and pull to standing at 5 months though. I think that it really helps as well. I also use it when combing her very long hair. It got her to sit still. I sold mine on ebay a few weeks ago because she could stand up and get out of it and it was pretty much useless after that.

My sister is pregnant and put one of these on her baby registry. I have 3 kids myself, and I have to be honest, I thought this was one of the silliest things I ever saw. What ever happened to setting your kids on the couch with a pillow behind them? Maybe I'm ignorant, I just don't understand what the big deal is. How did our grandparents and parents ever survive without this stuff? LOL Anyway, my grandma bought my sister one and now I am anxious to see how this works.
